URWERK Black Cobra Watch: Can Comics Sell Luxury Watches?
While it is hard to give proper credit, Linde Werdelin is the first luxury watch brand that I know of that employed the use of comics (ahem, graphic novels) to sell high-end timepieces. They still do that, and certainly are going to carry that idea into the future. UPDATE: I just learned that I had it wrong. Linde Werdelin might have been the first to disseminate marketing comic imagery online (that I know of), but Urwerk had published comic content as far back as 2008 (republished here - thanks Ian). Now luxury brand Urwerk offers a new comic strip (see below to check it out). I think the idea is brilliant. Why has it taken until modern times to do this? Because stuffy people in luxury watch company's were afraid of diluting the "prestige" of their brands with dirty comic book. Pshwhat is this? 1986? Comic art has defined?? much of the last generation. What do you think rich people under 35 are going to associate with more positively. Cool graphic novel imagery for a new watch, or spon
The Sinn U1000 Watch Has Risen From The Depths
Sinn's new EZM6 diving watch, the U1000 has finally arrived. The watch's specs have been circulating for a while, but not until now have pictures of the watch been available. The Sinn U1000 should hit retailers in March 2008, and Sinn is obviously going to make the U1000 the highlight of their display at Basel World this year. Sinn, based out of Frankfurt Germany just keeps on making lusted after timepieces.Last year, Sinn gave us the 757 and 757 UTC models which share a bit of the design theme of the U1000. The major difference being that one is a pilot's watch, while the other is a diving watch. The 757 series gave us a stunning design with remarkable functionality, but the U1000 really takes it to the next level. Starting with the movement, Sinn uses a chronograph movement based on the ETA Valjoux 7750, with some serious modifications. Most importantly is the ability of the movement to survive and remain accurate under extreme conditions, and the alteration of the minute counter win
New to AP. Looking at buying new blue dial RO
Hey everyone. Id really like to get a hold of a blue dial Royal Oak but know not a lot about them. From my understanding I would need to buy from a boutique with my nearest being in France. I did email them but they did not reply. Are these items on a long waiting list or fairly easy to purchase? Eg. Buying a sub vs trying to buy a Daytona ceramic. I have spotted a few models which appear to my newbie eye to be similar eg. Jumbo and 15400. 39mm and 41mm. Am I mixing a lot of things up here with new references and old? After reading these appear to be more delicate than SS Rolex models. I am careful at the best of times but how often should a new RO be serviced and what is the normal cost for this. Ive seen blue dial new unworn watches for 14000 or there abouts. Does this scream beware?Sorry for bombarding with questions. Thank you.
Wait or buy?
Hi all, as you know I just got a 5726 today, and already have a 5712-1A, basically it's the only 2 nice watches I have, flipped my RG Daytona and the Hulk.My question is, my 2 PP are not really beaters, before I always had a sub or something of the sort, I plan on MAYBE getting, not sure, a 5167R in a few years, I know it's not a beater, I was thinking either get a 114060 (non date sub) and that would be my trio, or just wearing my old Omega for swimming and sports and just get a 5167R when I can, I would swim with it and practice non violent sports.Knowing that I found it not very comfortable to wear heavy watches like a sub recently, exact opposite before I needed to feel the watch, not the case since I got my 5712, so do you think I should get the sub and flip it when/IF I get the 5167R, or just wear my Omega? Here's a few pics of the Omega. Thanks in advance for your repliesP1000729.JPGP1000730.JPG
International insurance as an expat question
Hi everyone,First post here, though I've been lurking since I've been on a waiting list for a BLNR. Hoping some more experienced members can steer me in the right direction. Here's the situation. I'm an expat in Shenzhen, China and I've been on waiting lists at 3 AD's in Hong Kong since April. My job has me traveling around Asia Pacific quite often, but the BLNR is such a hot item in Asia that they are nowhere to be found. I'll be in North and Central America on business starting tomorrow and will be going through the Newark airport, Houston airport, spending some time in San Jose, Costa Rica and a little less time in San Francisco. Hoping to find the BLNR at one of those locations. In case I do, I want to have some info on buying insurance for a Rolex as an expat. I rent my apartment here in Shenzhen, so homeowners insurance with a rider for the watch is not an option (have been an expat out here for about 9 years and I don't own any property back in the US). I'd like to look at a
