Introducing the Steinhart Ocean One Vintage Dual Time
It's been quite some time since we've written about Steinhart, the German brand known for producing some of the most affordable Swiss-made watches on the market. But a few days ago, the company sent out a press release that caught our collective attention. Today, we have the pleasure of introducing Steinhart's latest addition to their Ocean line, the Ocean One?Vintage Dual Time.As you may have guessed, this isn't an original design from the brand. Rather, the Ocean One Vintage Dual Time is Steinhart's take on the legendary PanAm Rolex GMT, a watch first developed by Rolex in 1954 for Pan American World Airways. Pan Am was the first airline to offer commercial international service, and as the lore goes, the airline worked with Rolex to create a watch that could meet the needs of the company's transatlantic pilots. Pan Am's executives were apparently quite jealous of the pilots and their new toys, so Juan Trippe, the head of Pan Am at the time, decided to squelch the discord by commissi
Hands-On: A Totally Unique And Transparent Vintage Pocket Watch From Hamilton
Hamilton's film What Makes a Fine Watch Fine opens with a shot of a transparent watch, its gear train seemingly floating in air. Today we are used to seeing brands advertise their new watches with computer rendered animations that show the mechanics of a watch movement in amazing clarity. The absolutely crazy thing about that film, and the watch that it shows, is that it was shot in 1947. The watch is a unique version of Hamilton's model 992, with plates and bridges made from lucite. It comes from the collection of René Rondeau, a watchmaker, dealer and historian specializing in Hamilton watches. Seeing this watch in person is insane. Mr. Rondeau wrote an article about the watch in the May 2007 Horological Times, and the title really sums it up: The Ultimate Skeleton Watch. The watch was acquired from John Gelson, president of Hamilton in the 1980's. (John Gelson was in fact Hamilton's last president.) 1 OF 9 While the watch itself is
Best AP for me... Sofar....
Just got my hands on a like New 15300st! A model I've been lusting for ever since I got my first AP back in 2012. What a comfy and superb looking model this is. May I say... Perfection! Been sporting my Aquanaut since I got it almost daily. Well it must now give way for some wrist time for the 15300. Blue dial would have been the ultimate combo, but I wonder if AP SC could change this for me at some point. Well the black isn't exactly bad either!
Worn bezel on 2351 Bond - keep it or
Hi gents,I'm thinking on giving my 17 y.o. Bond a refreshed look - what could need most love is the bezel. Its original blue has faded and it gained some scratches in return. As far as I could find out, Omega doesn't sell the bezel insert alone - it sells the whole package - clever guys! . I saw some posts on other forums of some gents replacing the bezel and it really gives the watch another look... What do you think? Does this faded bezel, along the patina that's starting very faintly to show on the dial indexes starts to give this 17 y.o. watch a classic status? Is my Bond going through its coming of age, so I should keep it like that?Or, on the other hand, replacing the bezel by a new one would give it a better, more modern look?
