When you wear a watch, do you wear it for yourselfOr do you wear it for everyone else? As an avid watch collector with a self-admitted wrist fetish, I am curious to know the varying answers to this question.Outside of my own watch-buying and watch-wearing behavior, I make this query because my company recently referred one of our customers to do business with a law firm which has represented us for over 20 years. At the initial meeting in the law firm's office, I couldn't help but notice the bling'd-out solid gold Rolex our customer (we'll call him Alan ) was wearing and had obviously forced over his shirt cuff. You know the one: red, white, and blue stones encrusted all the way around, and particularly popular amongst the baseball players - what with the matching bling'd-out bracelet for the other wrist. I wondered if Alan felt compelled to make sure all the major league players at this law firm noticed the junk on his wrist - and if so, why. What message was he trying to convey? One

Comparing the watch releases of SIHH 2010 and Baselworld 2010, I would have to say that for the most part I was more impressed with the releases at SIHH, and it was a significantly smaller show. Why that is I am not sure, but here is another one of the good things that I spotted. This isn't just another Panerai watch, but rather the PAM339 in a special ceramic case. While it doesn't surprise me to see Panerai going ceramic, it just sort of happened without notice.Panerai doesn't even call their material ceramic really, but rather "Composite." Why? Not sure, there must be some sneaky marketing decision. One of the reasons likely has to do with the fact that Panerai uses a different type of ceramic. It is very light, and stated to be much harder than standard ceramics. The hardness is a little bit harder that standard zirconia ceramics, and way harder than steel. Is this 15400 too big for me?
I'm a huge fan of the 15202 but unfortunately I suffer from 6.3 wrists (16cm) :( however I wasn't going to let that stop me from trying it on at least. So off I went to the AD but was disappointed to hear that they didn't carry the jumbo. They did have a 15400 and I thought I'd just humour myself and I tried it on. Much to my surprise, the lugs and extended/integrated links did not hang over at all and it fit snugly around my wrist. The bracelet was too long but that was completely expected; I just pinched it back with my other hand.Anyway here are the pics. I was looking for your opinions on whether it looks too big for me overall. I'd appreciate any input and especially your candour. Was at the AD a few days ago and they had a couple grails in they were more than happy to let me try on. I never can get over the weight of these pieces. Not in the budget right now but soon maybe.
