Glash��tte Original Premieres Five New Short Films on the Brand at Berlinale 2015
German luxury watch brand Glash��tte Original chose a perfect venue in which to unveil to the public its innovative film project: the 65th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), with which the brand has partnered since 2011. There is a lot to like about the looks of this piece. Large hands, oversized numerals, big crown; it just oozes cool. By the name one can tell the water resistance rating: 600M. The romantic notion of a handmade watch is one that doesn't stand very much exposure to the present world of watchmaking. For many decades, the overwhelming majority of components found in series produced watches have been produced by multi-axis milling machines, and if today you visit pretty much any watch manufactory from the smallest to the largest, you'll see that most parts are being made by computer controlled (CNC) machines. There are any number of practical reasons why this is so, of course (and in general, everyone has benefited, including consumers) but it's interesting to look back occasionally to watches made at a time when handmade meant just that – and when the skill of the hands doing the making was instantly visible. Thanks to Fr. John for his help yesterday. I purchased from his AD yesterday and received tremendous service as a result. Now about the watch -- The size is perfect, 42mm, and it fits very comfortably on my wrist (6.50+). It's a a true icon and a work of art. I have a 372 that I love and was on the hunt for a watch that can take a beating and go anywhere with me. My choices were narrowed down to: the Pam 005, the Speedy Pro and either a sub c or this discontinued sea dweller. My gut said speedy pro now and maybe add a rolex later on. I think I made the right call here. I have a feeling I'll be wearing this a lot. Thanks to everyone who posts here on the forums.
