Davosa Vanguard Review
As a fan of vintage as well as contemporary watches, I love it when brands are able to pull from the aesthetics of watches from the 20th century, without making something gimmicky. Luckily, as a bit of a trend, many brands have recently created such watches. From the remarkably cheap Orient Bambino to the stark and simple Hamilton Intra-Matic, there are a nice amount of options to choose from. Adding to this genre, Davosa has just released their new Vanguard model, which takes mid-century styling and adds a few twists for something unique.I first saw the Davosa Vanguard in Basel last April. Then still unnamed, I was immediately impressed by the design in my brief viewing. It was a nice compact size, had cool texturing and had some details that seemed straight out of the 60's. The very nice people from Davosa we met with also mentioned that the watch would come with a variety of straps to help accessorize the watch, adding to its value and functionality. 6.5" wrist and Royal Oak Bracelet fit
My wrist size is 6.5 and I've take 3 links off my 15400OR but it is quite loose on me still. Took it to the AD and they said if they took another one off it would be too tight. As of now, I can easily fit a finger in between my wrist and the bracelet. Anyone else have a 6.5 wrist with similar issues? Would really like to avoid ordering half-links as I'm assuming they will be very expensive. I'll post some pics when I get home....
Which vintage (or near-vintage) Speedmaster "should" I own?
I really like the look of the older, manual wind Speedmasters, and I understand it's a right of passage (of sorts). I only just recently started to get my head around Rolex, so I'm not even going to try to pretend that I have any clue about the Speedmasters. The reference numbers are crazy, I have no idea what pre- and post-moon is (I know why they're called that, but not what's significant about it), and overall I'm clueless. I don't need the Comex equivalent, but I'd like to have an idea of what's what with these.Lay it on me.
Results from adding a half-link to my Explorer 1
For the last 2 years I have been trying to find the perfect fit for my Explorer 1. My wrist is just at the point where it was too loose when I kept the original full set of links and had the micro adjustment moved to the 'shortest' notch. I tried removing a link from the 6 o'clock side and moving the micro adjustment to its 'longest' notch. It was a better fit with one link removed. However, the watch face was slightly rotated away from me and not in the optimal place on my wrist. Additionally, the link under the clasp closest to the 12 o'clock side was cantilevered in an uncomfortable way. The solution was a half-link. This does not change the overall length of the bracelet when you use the micro adjustments (at least not when I measure it), but it repositions the watch face, and gets rid of the cantilever problem. The Explorer does not come with a half-link, but the Sub half link DOES. The Sub half link fits and matches perfectly. I am now totally satisfied with the fit, a
