Louis Moinet: Rewriting Chronograph History
The Swiss watch brand Louis Moinet has unveiled an artifact that may change how we look at the history of timekeeping a timekeeping device from the early 19th century, invented by the brand’s namesake, that may be the first chronograph ever created.Known as a compteur de tierces the term chronograph had not yet been invented the device was built by French watchmaker Louis Moinet between 1815 and 1816. The counter's balance beats at 216,000 vibrations per hour (30 Hz), allowing its center-mounted hand to accurately measure intervals to 1/60 of a second. (The term tierce, literally third, was used at the time to refer to 1/60 of a second.)In a press conference held in Geneva on March 21, Jean-Marie Schaller, the CEO of Louis Moinet, appeared with a number of watch experts to introduce the world to the Louis Moinet Chronograph. The 15-year-old brand purchased the counter at auction from Christie's in May of 2012 for $67,443. The instrument appears to have been very well ma
Barrington Watch Winder Review
Watch winders They're kind of a mysterious watch accessory. They can be had for very cheap, or for way too much, yet in the end of the day all do the same thing, save a perk or two. Pricing comes down to, like watches themselves, quality of components and finish. They range from pure business in black plastic with slightly noisy motors that you can tuck away on a shelf, to models built of luxurious hardwoods and leather, driven by precision engines that are dead silent and look better on a coffee table. They can turn just one watch, or a whole collection. No matter what, the goal is to keep your watches wound and in good condition. For those of us who collect watches in the more affordable and accessible spectrum, likely the first consideration is cost. I'd rather save my dough for the watches themselves, so spending more than $200 is quite unlikely, and even for that much, I'd want something pretty decent. Yes, a cheap winder with multiple slots is always tempting, but the reality of
INCOMING: from none to two AP in under a week!
Following much great advice and many varying opinions from my fellow TRFers, I just picked up a Diver. I really appreciated everyone's input, and thank you all.To quickly reply to a number of the slightly more serious points made in the thread I started yesterday, Why should I NOT buy a Diver:I do not consider it to be too similar to my 15400...far from it. To me they are no more similar than a Date-Just and a Deep Sea.I do not like the new white dialed Diver, it was always going to be black dialled for me....IMHO it is not correct for a dive watch to have a sapphire case back, and I certainly would not pay extra to have it....also, if ever I feel the need to look at the 3120 movement I'll pick up my 15400....I really don't care if it's ISO 6425 compliant or not.The Euro prices are shooting up rapidly, and I got a good deal....Sorry for the poor pic....I'll try to do better in the next few days......meanwhile...........I think I LOVE AUDEMARS PIGUET!
Help please !!
