Ulysse Nardin Marine Diver Refreshed For 2014
The Ulysse Nardin Marine Diver is one of the few trademark collections of the brand, packing some unique design features that have for long?set this model?apart from the rest. In fact, it was among the first?dive watches that we recall to have a decidedly dressy and elegant flair to it, a successful experiment in?mixing the prestige of a high-end brand with the cool-factor of dive watches.?For 2014, Ulysse Nardin decided to refresh?its Marine Diver line by focusing on some important aesthetic refinements, all the while keeping its fundamentals intact. You see, despite?the company's?some 170 years of history?in making exceptionally accurate marine chronometers and its unique anchor logo, Ulysse Nardin is hardly?one of the first names?that spring to mind when we think of nautical themed Swiss brands. The reason for that is?that more recently we have been overwhelmed by?the array of beautiful and highly complicated C and as such, more dressy and fragile C watches which the brand has been r

AP Roo Diver: A Week On "My" Wrist: Observations
Some in-hand observations about the AP Diver (i have used my rolex sea dweller as a reference where i thought it would lend some perspective, not trying to compare the two as they are apples and oranges)In the realm of dive watches, the AP certainly stands out as unique, 1st it is a dive watch without an external bezel, quite uncommon, 2nd It has a movement that is beautifully finished and topped with a 22 carat gold rotor. The internal bezel is a neat complication & works nicely, it gives you a different way to interact with the watch & I like this. I time things frequently on dry land and although setting the bezel can't be done under water, its a very rare occurrence that I would want to use it that way, I guess I would just use my SD for the rare occasion i went diving. this is my first AP so many of its components / attributes strike me for the first time, so here are a few of my novice observationsSTYLE: the AP diver maintains the styling cues of the classic royal oak, t
Speedmaster Date 3513.50 Question about Service
Watch is about 15 years old - this will be its 3rd service (last 2 were through Omega in Beverly Hills and it has been 5 years since the last one). It was losing about 20 seconds/day, so definitely due for service. Omega website says $675 for basic service. The list below is quoted by Hyde Park (Denver) at $760. Is there more on this list than would normally be required? Polishing is another $150. Any concerns about Hyde Park? I am not sure if I will polish or not.Service quote:Includes the disassembly, cleaning, adjustment and replacement of worn internal components.Includes all gaskets and case adjustments necessary to ensure the water resistance of the timepiece.Includes mainspring, barrel and arborIncludes dial repair (center and align)Includes hands repair (tighten and align)Includes stem replacement Includes case repair Includes push button repair Includes riveting 8 weeks from the date of approval is required for this process. A Treasured Patek C Stolen Long Ago C Can Archive Records be Retrieved?
My father-in-law Mike bought a simple manual wind Patek while traveling in Switzerland with his wife in the 1950s. My wife, then of school age, remembers the pride with which her dad displayed his new Patek after his return home. Mike wore that Patek for years and he was still wearing it daily in the early 2000s. I doubt that his Patek was ever serviced. Sadly, Mike's treasured Patek was stolen in about 2004, a year before Mike's death. My wife and I were clueless about fine timepieces and we had no idea at the time that the watch may have been registered in the Patek archives.I have only a vague recollection of Mike's watch but would guess it was a member of the Calatrava 96-series. I wonder if it would be possible to find a record of Mike's watch in the Patek archives. And, although we would be unable to claim the watch today, it would be interesting to learn if Patek has serviced Mike's watch in recent years. Can the Patek archives be searched with only the original watch own
