Hamilton Evokes its Aviation Heritage with New Khaki Pilot Pioneer Pilots’ Watches
Hamilton Watch Co., founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, began making watches for pilots shortly thereafter, in 1919. The brand’s new collection of pilots’ watches, called Khaki Pilot Pioneer Auto Chrono, bears the influence of its early aviation watches. WatchTime got a close-up look at the watches at the EAA Airventure in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, “the world’s greatest aviation celebration.”Hamilton watches have been a staple of aviation since the early 20th century, when they were used to time the first American airmail service, and by the 1930s had become the official watch of the TWA, Eastern, United, and Northwest commercial airlines. Hamilton was a partner in the first American coast to coast air services and, in the 1920s, its Hamilton 992 model made history as the watch worn by Admiral Byrd in his flights over the North and South Poles. In recent years, Hamilton became a timekeeping sponsor of the EAA AirVenture event America’s largest ga
Panerai’s New Luminor Has Antimagnetic Case
Panerai‘s newest Luminor Submersible model debuts a new technological innovation for the brand: a special case construction that ensures a high level of resistance to the magnetic fields, omnipresent in everyday life, that can disrupt or even stop a watch’s movement. The Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Amagnetic 3 Days Automatic Titanio-47 mm (referred to more succinctly as the PAM00389) has a specially designed internal case made of soft iron, which encloses and isolates the movement, forming a Faraday cage that diverts the flow of magnetic fields. This construction provides an impressive degree of magnetic resistance: 40,000 A/m (amperes per meter), a limit more than eight times greater than the value specified by international standards. The soft iron case is immediately beneath the dial, which is made of the same material. (As many fans of IWC know, that brand also uses a type of soft iron inner-case construction in some of its Pilot watches.)Our watches are exposed to
Top 10 Watches Of Baselworld 2015
Baselworld 2015 came and went seemingly faster than previous Baselworld watch trade shows. Maybe that is because team watches-dealer met with so many brands, hour after hour, for a solid week. By our records, we formally met with about 85 watch brands in the hopes of capturing as wide a scope of what is new in the watch world as possible. That includes meetings with the big boy luxury watch makers such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, Omega, TAG Heuer, Breitling, and many more that represent most of the world's high-end watch makers, as well as meetings with more mainstream producers of timepieces such as Bulova, Citizen, Seiko, Casio, and Victorinox Swiss Army. More so, we took the time to learn what smaller independent watch makers were doing to innovate and add variety to the world of not only mechanical timepieces, but also some interesting new electronic and smartwatches.Team watches-dealer at Baselworld 2015; from left to right: David Bredan, James Stacey, Ariel Adams C with Mark Carson
Pleasantly Surprised
I didn't study all the models, but it looks like the one I want next stayed the same retail for 2013. Assuming my abbreviated Google search was correct anyway.
Will the new GMT II Pepsi dial make the BLNR less desirable
Any thought? Plus I think prices will drop a little?
