Christiaan Van Der Klaauw Planetarium Watch Available On James List
I was in Basel, Switzerland sitting in a van and I saw a man wearing what looked rather familiar. There on his wrist was a Christiaan Van Der Klaauw Planetarium. Of course, it makes total sense for the man to be strutting his stuff at Baselworld, but how rare is it for someone to have one of these? Pretty rare actually. The luxury watch done in an old world style displays the signature ultra complexity that Christian Van Der Klaauw is know for. I know of no other watch with a full planetarium on the dial. I talked to the man for a second to compliment him on the piece. You just don't see stuff like that very often. In fact, Christiaan van der Klaauw (CVDK) pretty much only makes "astronomical watches." The Planetarium has the smallest such complication in the world on the dial. Even before clocks existed, there were astrological devices meant to track the heavens. The watch movement is a heavily modified ETA 2824 with a hell of a module on it. Aside from the time, the watch has an annua
Has the 5711 market topped out?
A few months ago any 5711 was going quickly from the uk Grey's at prices increasingly, more and more over retailNow, in the shopping frenzy season, I'm wondering if they're still hanging about with the usual uk greys etc because the prices are just too high now?32750 for a ?19000 (new rrp) blue ... ?27500 for a white...?14,000 over retail!!! Wow...
What to add next?
I’m looking for a diver to add to my small collection, which currently consists of a Batman and Speedy Pro... so I’ll have a diver, GMT, and chronograph. I’ll probably end up adding a dress watch as my fourth piece. I’ve narrowed my search down to a 14060, 16610, 16600, 116610LV, and 126600. My AD will be able to get me the last two within a reasonable timeframe. I sold my 116610LN after about 3 years of daily wear, so I’m looking for something different to spice things up. I don’t like the SD4K due to the way the bracelet fits the lugs, which is why I bought the sub over the SD4K despite similar price a few years back. My wrist is 7 inches, so I think I’d be able to handle the 43mm case of the SD43. One of the things pushing me towards a new watch from the AD is continuing to build a relationship, which will hopefully lead to me getting a Daytona at some point. This is how the sub fit my wrist:
Would you pay extra $ for a Daytona with flyback?
Just a random thought after seeing some dressier chronographs with flyback capabilities..With the daytona being a sport watch geared for automotive racing wouldn't a flyback function be a logical and useful complication? Would an increase price be justified with this added complication? I don't think Rolex has ever made a flyback...right? Perhaps they are working on it...obligatory daytona picture:
SD43 (SD50) what if...
I am sure I will get crucified for this but here goes... I keep hearing rumors the Red Sea dweller font is one year only. Now, I am 99.999% sure that is NOT going to happen. BUT, what if? What would the piece be worth in your option if the red font is a one year only run? Asking just for fun, zero interest in selling and again I am sure it won't happen but fun to discuss!Yeti
