Looking At Liquid Metal Watches With Omega
The modern arms race with watches isn't about gears and pinions, but rather materials. It may appear that brands are hot on beating each others' movements but they know that such a war would be a joke. The race for the most accurate movement slowed to almost a halt when quartz watches hit the scene, and there are almost no new viable complications to be invented. The secrecy and excitement in the world of high-end watches is all in discovering, creating, and exploiting the hottest new materials. We've seen this over the last 10 years more than ever. Ceramic, titanium, carbon fiber, silicium, and other new or previously under-utilized materials are more than common now. Even within those categories are new alloys, manufacturing techniques, formulations, uses, and colors. For those who only get hot and bothered by calibers, I say start looking outside the watch more often. In about 2009 Omega announced that it would be using a new type of material called Liquidmetal. Got a chance to try this new piece yesterday. It was truly a great looking piece.
Moon watch - careful usage
Call me difficult, but I would like to point out the loose usage of this term by numerous sellers on TRF.May I respectfully request that this term be reserved for reference to the Omega Speedmaster Professional watches only? If it's an automatic you're talking about, it simply can't be a moon watch. Some purists might urge that this term reference only models like the 145.012 and 105.012. However, omega itself refers to both vintage and current Speedmaster Professional watches, ie 3570.50, as moon watches. My impression is that it helps prevent misunderstandings if we agree on the definition of terms. What do you think?
After the new GMT release
I guess I have to pull out a Jubilee and put on this one.
Who grew to love the 116610?
I'll admit it when the 116610 started showing up I thought Rolex had ruined the most perfect watch ever made the 16610. 8 years later (hard to believe the 116610 is already 8 years old!!) I started thinking about it more and more and looking at more and more pics and articles. Then I tried one on this summer and was like whooooah it's not bad! Needless to say few months later I bought one and don't think I could go back. Now I'll will still admit if it still had all the upgrades and the same lines it would be a grand slam, but even still I have grown to love it and don't plan on looking back.......Anyone else grew to love the 116610 ??
