Watches NEWS
Ancon Sea Shadow Hands-On
It's always fun to find a brand you've never heard of, though for us, it happens less and less these days. So, when I stumbled upon Ancon watches a few weeks ago, I was extremely excited. A quick glance revealed over-sized, over-built tool watches with looks akin to war machines, not your average desk diver. A deeper inspection revealed that the watches were a mix of familiar elements, well-tuned colors and interesting detailing that when combined created watches that were simultaneously charming and fierce. Like an antique weapon, there is something sculptural and entrancing about them, but underneath, the aggressive intentions are still apparent. The inspiration for the watches is the USS Ancon AGC-4, which was a modified commercial passenger-cargo ship meant for carrying troops that saw a lot of use in WWII. The watches themselves, of which there are 3 distinct models and many variations currently available, are a strange mix of huge modern cases with classic dials. Those who are fam
ROO Elephant strap question
I have finally decided to jump into the world of AP and have decided on the AP ROO Elephant. I have a strap size question. I have a 7 1/4 wrist and want to also order the grey strap to go along with the hornback that comes with it and was wondering if I need to order the xtra small rubber strap for a tight fit? I am not a big fan of my rubber / leather straps being lose or should the standard size fit me right out of the box? also wondering if anyone knows how much the rubber strap retails for so I have an idea of what I am looking at.thanks again for the help
Thinking out loud (World timer)
This is my first post on the Patek forum ,, i wish it was an incoming post but i am afraid it isn't . I was thinking about world timers as the 5130p was/is on my wishlist for quite a while, So i decided to share my thoughts regarding WTs hoping i could trigger a discussion and get some invaluable input from our expert brethren here in TRF ,,, please keep in mind that all i am about to propose is all from my (not so)common sense and in no way am i suggesting i have any inside news , So here it goes :Given := 5110 WTs started production 2000 ended 2006.(7 years)= 5130 WTs started production 2007 ended ????. (8 years - )= both 5110 and 5130 use the same movement 240 HU= 5575 new WT limited edition (1300) with a new complication and a brand new movement 240 HU LUDiscussion:= the brand new 240 HU LU movement was only used for the 1300 new 5575 and common sense dictates that we shall get more new lunar WT i the near future. probably starting by a 5575p ? = since the 5110 series continued
Breguet, Patek, and the Daytona
Since the $50K thread got locked here is a fact to remember about Breguet. The company was started by Louis Abraham Breguet in 1775 in Paris, which makes it the oldest watch company, period. The company is owned by the Swatch Group but they are essentially stand alone from the perspective of movements, etc. Breguet has invented more watch technology that just about any other watch company. Breguet overcoil anyone? It is still disingenuous to say the Daytona has no history though. It has a great history - it's just measured in decades not centuries like Breguet. And there's no reason to diss Patek Philippe unless you're jealous and can't afford one. They're great watches and the Aquanaut and Nautilus are more than robust enough to withstand diving and a game or two of golf.Rolex's are great pieces - but you have to be open-minded about where they sit in the watch universe and enjoy them for what they are, and not criticize other brands for not being Rolex.
Trf any icoming plans?
Trf any of you guys plan on an incoming watch anytime soon.....It seems like im always thinking about a new watch?
