German Watchmaking Struts its Stuff at WatchTime New York 2015
Despite a predominance of very fine Swiss watch brands (along with one notable brand each from Japan and the USA) at last weekend’s WatchTime New York event, Germany, especially the German watchmaking town of Glashtte, was well-represented also, winning over guests with some very distinctive timepieces. Here is a sampling. The most prestigious Glashtte brand, A. Lange & S?hne, was a must-visit for many WTNY guests. In addition to the new gold-cased, black-dialed version of its A. Lange & S?hne Datograph Up/Down with a flyback chronograph and large Outsize date indication the brand also had its new Zeitwerk Striking Time model on display as well as the all-new, F.A. Lange 200th Anniversary Saxonia model with proprietary honey gold case. Lange also wowed visitors with a live watchmaker plying his trade at a workbench in its booth.A. After 2 years I finally saw another DSOTM in the flesh.
The one thing I love about the DSOTM is I've never seen one in the flesh. This evening I was on the SF muni going home and I saw what looked like a DS. I went up to the guy and we had a great conversation about Omega and the watch. He has the Cordora band with the new deployment buckle and I showed him my calf skin from the pitch black that I added. It was amazing how I could spot one from so far away and how I just went up and started talking. His wife looked bored lol. There is no way I would do that with a sub or Daytona. As much as I love Rolex and it is my fav watch brand I would never carry on a convo about one.
My First Omega - Decided on the SM 300M
I have been swamped with work and haven't been on the forum as much lately, but thought I'd share an incoming that I'm totally excited about. I've been missing a sports watch since letting go of my SD4K and 16610LV Kermit, and so have started to look for something I can wear with minimal worries. I debated on picking up a no date SubC or maybe the new Black Bay Black, but then came across this SM 300M Master Co-Axial. Completely fell in love with the vintage styling and paired with the very nicely finished Co-Axial 8400 movement. Fits well on the wrist and even comes with a bracelet adjustment that is comparable to Glidelock (I've been spoiled by glidelock and I don't think I can ever own another bracelet watch without an adjustment function). Overall I was really impressed and couldn't resist bringing it home. This is actually my first Omega as well and couldn't be happy I picked this. I always thought my first Omega would be a Speedy Pro but I think for a sports watch the dive
How the news broke!...
I'm not a prolific forum poster by any means yet visit multiple times a day! Though a recent notification of arrival has spurred me onI'm normally the recipient of emails from a demanding customer or my manager wanting to discuss the next crisis so imagine my surprise when the following popped in my inbox!Subject: 5131RHi JohnAre you sat down? The 5131R is ready for delivery! Could you let me know your home address so Patek can print it on the warranty for usKind regardsAndrewIt got my attention alright, my co-workers thinking I'd had a funny turn by my reaction! All being well I will collect my watch on my birthday very soon.
Incoming BLNR... but still have to wait!
I love dual time watches. They are a great tool for me where I can check different time zones easily. The Casio works awesome for that. But once you get hooked on to automatic/mechanical watches, there is no looking back. Got the SS SkyD, but something was missing. It just didn't seem right for me! So moved on from it.The GMT Master would have been a better choice, given you can track 3 time zone at once. The GMT LN was really nice, but it didn't sing to me. Finding the BLNR seemed more challenging. The one I got to try was already spoken for. Scouting every AD in every country I visited. Finally, I emailed the AD I got my TT Daytona from, about how much I wanted the BLNR. He put in a special order for me. Less than a week later got the call at 3 am(last night, I am 12 hours ahead of US). Even the AD was surprised that they got the BLNR for me so fast. So stoked Can't wait for it. Have to wait 2 weeks before I will be flying back to stateside. Eagerly counting the days down! Building a
