Collection of 4,300+ Swatch Watches Sells for $6,650,000
One of the most complete collections of Swatch watches in the world sold for HK$51,707,500 or nearly $6,650,000 in Hong Kong recently. Swiss businessman Peter Blum and his wife Linda assembled the collection over a period of years. The collection’s 4363 pieces includes a large number of prototypes, hybrids and production variants never brought to market. Many of the prototypes date from the extraordinary period prior to commercialization of the first Swatch watches in the early 1980s, and so are extremely rare. Among the most interesting and sought-after by collectors are a number of prototypes designed by the American artist Keith Haring, as well as the artist's legendary Swatch watches Modele avec Personnage, Milles Pattes, Serpent and Blanc sur Noir. Additional rarities include Swatch watches created by artists Mimmo Paladino, Alfred Hofkunst and Sam Francis.Conducted by Phillips de Pury & Company, this one-of-a-kind auction attracted considerable interest during pre-sale
Breguet Grand Complication Ref. 1160 Pocket Watch: Return Of A Legend In Spirit And Actuality
1783 France - Louis Abraham Breguet is contacted for the commission of the world's most elegant and complicated timepiece to be handed to Queen Marie-Antoinette. A task commissioned by Count Axel de Ferson, an officer in the Queen's high guard, and a suitor to the queen. Price and time meant nothing, "make the most spectacular watch the world has ever seen;" the noted queen's affection for jewelry and rare items was to be outstanded. At least that was the idea. In 1793, ten years after work had begun on the Marie Antoinette Breguet pocket watch, the French Revolution took its grasp on French royalty, and Queen Marie Antoinette was beheaded at the guillotine for treason.Work, however, did not cease on the watch. It was not until 1827 that the watch was finally completed. The result of 34 years of efforts imbuing the pocket watch with every known complication at the time. The movement was an automatic (self-winding) mechanical (obviously) movement with a 48 hour power reserve. Complicati

Sub 16800
I'm looking at a Sub 16800 R serial number (purchaseed new in 1988) that's complete with the box, documentation, and full history. I have a couple questions.1) The braclet was replaced a few years ago with a new Rolex braclet. Should that have any effect good or bad on the value?2) Besides feeling good about the purchase is there anything else I should do to help determine an appropriate price? Thanks
