Essay: An American High Schooler In Hong Kong That Loves Watches
The below essay is a contribution from Evan Tich:My name is Evan Tich, and I am currently living in Hong Kong and will be for the remainder of my high school years. I have relocated many times in my life due to my father's job. It came as no surprise to me when my dad sat our family down and broke the news, again. Different cities ideas flew through my head, but never in my life would I have expected to move to such a foreign place as Hong Kong; however, I have been living here for three years as a student, a soccer player, and, most importantly, a watch enthusiast - and have been loving every minute of it.When I made the long trip to Hong Kong International Airport, it was no surprise that there were many things different to that of which I was accustomed to in the United States; however, the longer I rested in the city of Hong Kong, the more accustomed I grew to it. My quick assimilation into Hong Kong culture brought along with it a keen curiosity of certain aspects of Chinese cultu
AP Incoming!
Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum, signed up because of the AP forum, wanted to know more about the brand and different models. I'm on the process of acquiring my first Audemars Piguet, a new stainless diver. I should have it mid-week, looking forward to getting it as this is the nicest watch I've owned. I have had a few watches in my past collection, including Breitling, Omega, Rolex, Tudor, Panerai and Tag Heuer. I'm down to 3 now, a Panerai 328, Baume & Mercier Riviera and now the AP Diver. Thanks!
Autmatatic Movements
I've owned a couple of self wind watches from a number of different brands such as Rolex,JLC, Panerai, IWC, and Brietling.Granted some of these didn't have in house movements but they had solid ETA movements.Regardless it appears that when I let my Nautilus and Royal Oak run down it really takes very little to get the watch running again. Basically picking it up and slight movement is all it takes and the watch will start running.I generally do give them 40 winds if I'm going to wear them, I just thought it was pretty cool how it took very little before they would start running.
Buying an 11-year-old Explorer II...service it?
I'm about to acquire an 11-year-old Explorer II that I'm assuming has never been serviced. I'm wondering if getting it serviced is the first thing I should do, mostly concerned about the case remaining waterproof. Any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Rolex 14060/M Submariner: Dial and inserts versions
I've just came across a very interesting read comparing the variants of 16610LV and it appears that there are 8(!) variants produced in a very short time span:.network54/Forum/20759...ary+Submariner(Hope is ok to post links to external forum)Some very subtle differences mark the different versions. I've started to dig in for similar info regarding the 14060 versions as I found out that the watch that I own a F-serial 14060M have a Fat Four bezel insert exactly as in the some LV variants (e.g. Mark 1 and Mark 2).It appears that Rolex used the Fat Four bezel inserts on certain Submariner models produced in 2003/4 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Submariner watch.More info /confirmation of the above will be appreciated!More interestingly, on some dial variants of the 14060M the Swiss Made (below 6 o'clock) index spans over 5 minute ticks and on some over 3 minute ticks.I know, to some people these sort of details are quite boring and uneccessary but I love them - they make me ap
