Forging The Magrette Regattare Carbon Watch
When you think of the watches coming from New Zealand-based Magrette, you might be tempted to write them off as "seen one, seen them all." While it is true that they follow a particular design style, there are some interesting variations across the lineup (not to mention the heavily-engraved series). Their latest, the Magrette Regattare Carbon, definitely ups the ante for the brand.As you might surmise from the name of the watch, carbon fiber makes its debut here for the brand. Rather than just slapping a CF dial on the watch and calling it a day, Magrette has gone?in a much more interesting direction: they created a 44mm forged carbon case (yes, just like Linde Werdelin?and Audemars Piguet). Frederic Jouvenot Automatic Chronograph Evolution Watch: Rotor On Front
Precious little is known (to me) about then new Frederic Jouvenot watches. I would know a bit more if I was able to properly read French, and because all the press information is in a PDFgood luck trying to get me to put all that into the Google Translate tool. Good thing that a picture is worth a thousand words, because these images say a lot. The new watches will be released soon - in Basel if all goes according to plan. You can see that they are all based around the same theme and movement, but in these images there are at least two cosmetically different models. There is a distinct retro feeling from the watches. Watch maker Frederic Jouvenot is young at about 31 years old and wanted to create something new (as all young watch makers who branch-off from larger brand often do). Today I got the call and was excited to pick this up right before Christmas. Sourcing this was much easier than expected and took just under one week from request to delivery. I had mentioned to my AD a few months ago that I would like one whenever they got one in, but I was buying a Christmas present for my wife this past Thursday in the store and said that I wanted it for sure. Since one hadn't come into the store, I asked if they could source it for me. I went home, and 3 hours later I got a call to say one would be delivered the following week. I was surprised when it arrived today to have my information already printed on the certificate of origin as I have never had one done that way before but it was a nice touch. The watch is just stunning. Its way heaver that I thought it would be (in a good way) and it's also thinner than expected (also in a good way). First impressions are that it's a keeper for sure and I think it's going to be my favorite watch. It is now for sure,
