Obsessive Attention To Unseen Detail, And Why I love Luxury Watch Decoration: Audemars Piguet Openworking Video
I like to share with people that luxury mechanical watch movements are so meticulously decorated. Most of what is spent weeks or months working on will never be viewable to anyone save for other watch makers. It is true, the highest-end watch movements have each piece decorated by hand (hundreds of pieces), most of which are hidden inside of the movement. Does this help in the function of the watch? Typically is doesn't, but it is often a matter of pride and tradition - something watches are all about. Audemars Piguet has been on a roll creating "educational" marketing videos about how they make watches and the assembly and decoration thereof. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1! To the moon!
Not sure if you folks have seen my other threads with my son wearing my watches. But this is the latest, a 3570.50. I'm loving the curved crystal on this thing. Here's the latest pictures with my son modeling the watch! To the moon!
Famous Australian Adventurer -- And His Speedmaster
I'm going crazy...well, MORE crazy. I remember reading an article about a famous Australian adventurer/backpacker that wore an Omega Speedmaster while in the bush. The article included a bunch of pictures of the well-worn watch...including a missing pusher. I'm pretty sure it was on Hodinkee...but I can't find it.If I remember correctly, he liked to use the watch to keep tracking of the amount of time he had been walking. Anyone?
