Bring a Loupe: A Rare Military Breitling, A Funky Zenith El Primero, And Many Vintage Rolex
This week's Bring A Loupe will be chronograph heavy. You will discover a very rare Breitling, manufactured for the Italian army, as well as two chronographs from Zenith, one featuring the iconic El Primero movement. Expect to also learn more about some incredible vintage watches from Rolex, starting with the unavoidable Daytona with Paul Newman dial, and concluding with a rare, early prototype of the Rolex Day-Date. This is your Bring A Loupe for October 30, 2015. A Very Rare Breitling For The Italian Army, The Reference 817 CP-1 E.I 1 OF 12 You may have never heard about the Breitling reference 817 CP-1 E.I, but this is one of those watches that serious collectors eagerly hunt for. Let's first explain this intriguing reference from the mid-1970s: E.I stands for Esercito Italiano,or Italian Army, as the 817 was intended for the Italian helicopter pilots. And CP-1 is the military designation of the case size: this Breitling shares its stealth look with the f
Breaking News: The Tudor Black Bay One At Only Watch 2015 Sells For Over 100 Times Retail Price
The hammer has just dropped on the Tudor Heritage Black Bay One and I hereby dub this result officially the most unsurprising surprise of Only Watch 2015. Let me explain – in the past few weeks, I’ve been in many conversations with other watch guys about Only Watch 2015. Naturally the high priced lots were the topic of many of those discussions, but this Tudor came up almost as often. Why? Because of the belief that this piece could really go crazy – possibly hammering for significantly over estimate. 1 OF 2 What kind of result would be considered crazy? Well, the Heritage Black Bay One at Only Watch is a piece unique, but it is very similar to the recently released Tudor Heritage Black Bay Black (reference 79220N). The differences are just a few – bezel markings, hands, dial text, etc. The 79220N is a watch with a list price of just $3100. ADVERTISEMENT Well we know that a piece unique should obviously sell for
Look what I found at my AD!
This beautiful 5167/A just came in. What an awesome timepiece! I purchased one last year from the same AD, and they were very kind to me. I absolutely love my 5167. If anybody is interested, PM me and I will share the name and phone of the General Manager.
Trade 5127R+cash for 5130R?
Hi guys,Would you trade the 5127R plus cash for 5130R? I know one is a complication the other is not, my question is mainly about aesthetics. The case of both watches is different, although 5127 is 2 mm smaller. Thanks for your input!
The beginning of the end?
Not for the first time I’m hearing and reading that Rolex are looking to position themselves in the Uber luxury segment with reduced production likely to increase pricing thru demand. Currency fluctuations aside we haven’t seen a price increase for a number of years but the trend is there for all to see with preowned prices and if the reduced output strategy is only Half true I wonder if the end game may well be in sight for many more.Of course one could assume that others will fill the void, Omega ,JLC and IWC etc etc will no doubt step up and their watches will in turn increase exponentially until they too are symbols of ultimate luxury. Of course Nomos and other entry level watches will then fill that void and become the sought after brand of tomorrowI admit i may be being a little bit pessimistic but in an odd sort of way i’m largely done with Rolex for myself and any future buys will be gifts for my wife and daughter. In truth I’ve probably got all I coul
