Pequignet Moorea Triomphe Watches
Pequi-what? PequiGNET! You likely haven't heard of this brand as they haven't even looked in the direction of the US yet (as far as I know), but this France-based watch maker is one you should know about. They have a range of pieces with some unique styles. Some are their interpretations of other popular look, but all seem to have pretty nice values. Pequignet is also a true manufacture, and makes some of their own movements. For the rest they use Swiss-made ETA movements.First, the problems. Aside from not being available in the US, they have a name that sounds silly to US ears, and product names that follow suit. "Pequignet" looks about as fun to pronounce as "chartreuse." It sounds simple enough out loud, but the word itself is intimidating. These models for example are in the Moorea Triomphe collection. Moorea just isn't a name I would give to a masculine watch collection, but I suppose I can forgive that. The Moorea Triumph collection has a number of pieces. The simple of which run
GSOTM in the flesh!
Well colour me surprised! Walking past an omega boutique I look in the window and staring back at me is a grey side of the moon! I didn't think they were available until next year but lo and behold there it was. As a DSOTM owner of course I had to go in and try it on. It is much more silvery and shiny than the pictures give away, very metallic looking. It's very pretty and the leather strap works extremely well with the watch. In fact I am hoping they release a black croc for the DSOTM. It took all my will power not to buy it there and then. I think two of the same model is excessive for me!Now do I prefer the GSOTM to the DSOTM?? Not sure is my answer right now. I think you cannot go wrong with either. Please enjoy some of the pictures! What to look for in a Planet Ocean?
I would like to know what markings there are to determine authenticity. I haven't had an Omega watch for almost a decade now and don't know what to look for when buying second hand. Is there a serial number between the lugs like Rolexes have or is it on the back somewhere? Thanks for any help.
