Maurice de Mauriac Watch Straps 2012
Daniel Dreifuss of Maurice de Mauriac in Zurich is as wild about straps as he is watches. Sometimes maybe even MORE excited. The boutique brand's founder is perpetually in search of exciting new straps, strap makers, and materials. This is a labor of love that has him looking for the finest ways to attach his watches to your wrist.I sat with Daniel recently to check out some of his 2012 creations and styles. Maurice de Mauriac is more about custom creations than it is about buying off-the-shelf designs. If you recall in my past discussions of the brand, Maurice de Mauriac wants buying one of their watches to be a bit like playing with LEGOs.Much of the straps you see are custom made or designed for Maurice de Mauriac. These are just a small selection of the many straps he is constantly offering. Lately, Daniel has been keenly interested in straps made from fine leather (such as Hermes), as well as woven leather style straps. The woven leather straps he has had custom made are supple, ri
Panerai PAM339 Radiomir Composite Marina Militare 8 Giorni Watch
Comparing the watch releases of SIHH 2010 and Baselworld 2010, I would have to say that for the most part I was more impressed with the releases at SIHH, and it was a significantly smaller show. Why that is I am not sure, but here is another one of the good things that I spotted. This isn't just another Panerai watch, but rather the PAM339 in a special ceramic case. While it doesn't surprise me to see Panerai going ceramic, it just sort of happened without notice.Panerai doesn't even call their material ceramic really, but rather "Composite." Why? Not sure, there must be some sneaky marketing decision. One of the reasons likely has to do with the fact that Panerai uses a different type of ceramic. It is very light, and stated to be much harder than standard ceramics. The hardness is a little bit harder that standard zirconia ceramics, and way harder than steel. In terms of weight, Panerai Composite weighs less than titanium, and just a bit more than aluminum. In fact, the material is s
15202 vs FP Journe Chronometre Bleu
Hi all. Looking to get an opinion, as I am in the market for my next watch, and I have it narrowed down to the two in the title - AP 15202 vs FP Journe Chromometre Bleu. I wanted to go straight to the AP forum, since I know you all have strong opinions, and since FP Journe is my front runner I want to give the other side as much of an opportunity as possible. While I have a BLNR and Speedy Pro for every day wear, I am looking for a weekend watch, essentially. These two watches just feel *special* when you put them on. They can be dressed up or down, both have the blue dial, both are icons of sort (obviously the 15202 is a true icon and the Chrono Bleu is a newer icon of a modern manufacturer), are around the same price point ($22k for the 15202 vs $20 for the Chrono Bleu), etc. However, both are very different watches - one is very geometric in shape, has the date window, and is worn on a bracelet. The other is very fluid and quirky, has no date window, and is worn on a strap. However,
