Hands-on with the Second Generation Anstead Oceanis
When I heard last spring that Tom Anstead was going to come out with an updated version of his Kickstarter-fueled Oceanis, I was eager to get it on my wrist. I'd reviewed the first generation piece and had mentioned a few improvements I was hoping for in a next generation watch, including some quality control. I was eager to see how the boutique brand had addressed them.The good news is, they did indeed address quality control, and a few other things too. I don't mean this to be a head to head comparison of the Gen I and II versions, but comparisons are inevitable when discussing evolutionary models. Best Patek reference books?
Hey guys - I've got a ton of watch books and guides for Rolex and other brands.I was wondering if there are any recommendations for a good Patek book that has early vintage references and details as well as more recent models.I know John Reardon has Patek Philippe In America. Anyone have this?Open to other suggestions.Thanks

Modern it is, but which one
Recently I ran a current of threads in regards to getting a Patek Philippe dress watch.My choice was either a vintage or modern Calatrava. On reading what other members said, I have decided to go for a modern piece.I have been searching for a couple of months now, but prices here in the UK are a lot higher then in Europe and the USA and the choice is nowhere near as good either. Bearings or bushings, the cutting edge...
The rotor on Rolex movements, since too long, have spun on a bushing. More recently, a few movements are being provided ball bearings for the rotor. In particular, the 40mm Day Date, the Daytona, Sky Dweller, 43mm Sea Dweller, etc. Please note that the 36mm Day Date, for instance, still carries a bushing.Indeed, when I picked up my new GMT blnr yesterday, I was left with a certain feeling of je ne sais quoi because the GMT still runs on a lowly bushing. Why is it so difficult for Rolex to stand up for their customers and provide them with a better product if they can...??? I believe that Rolex is a great company that upholds the highest standards of quality and respect for their products. I have been told by industry insiders how persnickety and demanding the Rolex people are when it comes to their watches. So why not upgrade their movements when they can...??? Come on, Rolex.
