Rotonde de Cartier Annual Calendar
At SIHH this week Cartier unveiled the new Rotonde de Cartier Annual Calendar with the all-new manufacture caliber 9908 MC. All indications are set via the crown, and the 45 mm case is available in white gold or pink gold. The annual calendar mechanism is incorporated into the plate of the 1904 MC caliber. The in-house design for the movement includes a semi-instantaneous mechanism for converting the large date into two independent numerals (over a one-hour conversion period), which requires less power and so helps to ensure maximum chronometric stability. In this system, the four-branched star-wheel corresponding to the tens column is turned by the catches located on the large unit disc. This unit disc carries within it a simple mechanism which, thanks to a cam bearing a memory of the months incorporated directly into the lightened rims of the units of the date device, makes it possible to display without any possibility of error the months having 30 or 31 days, once the current month
Thomas Ninchritz Vice Versa Watch Available On James List
The reason this watch is called the Vice Versa should be pretty clear. Thomas Ninchritz took an ETA Unitas 6498 manually wound movement and was able to mount it backwards on the watch. He calls this his Caliber TN 203. At the same time, he was able to move the watch dial so that it is located in an smaller, off-centered positionon what would be the rear of the watch. So what you are left with is a timepiece whose dial is the rear of a heavily modified Unitas 6498 which has been highly decorated, and has a small watch face on the dial.Appeal here is not only in the unique "adjustment" of the base movement, but also the fact that you can see the large balance wheel oscillating all the time on the front of the watch. I like how Thomas Ninchritz used a type of circular strip polish on the mainplate of the movement, as well as the overall decoration. There is also some hand engraving on the balance wheel cock, and a swan neck fine adjustment. Thomas Ninchritz isn't the only one to use this
Breaking News: Sotheby's Chairman Daryn Schnipper Confirmed For HODINKEE Collectors Summit, To Discuss Selling The Most Expensive Watch In The World
The HODINKEE Collectors Summit is really taking shape. Not only will we have the likes of Aurel Bacs, Jason Singer, John Reardon, and Philippe Dufour in the house for completely candid, behind the scenes conversation with you, but we are thrilled to announce a new addition the schedule. And it's a big one. Like, to the tune of $24,000,000. Daryn Schnipper is the international chairman of the Sotheby's watch department. She is the woman responsible for selling the most expensive, most important watch on the planet, twice. Yes, Daryn is the woman who first set the record at $11 million dollars for the Henry Graves Supercomplication – one we thought would stand for all eternity – only to break it this past November by selling the very same watch for over $24 million. She'll be at the 2015 HODINKEE Collectors Summit to tell you what it was like first discovering this horological giant and then going through the process of researching it, understanding
Dumb question from AP newbie
Hello guys, I just started exploring the world of AP and I was wandering if you could tell me what was the difference in between the RO 15300, the 15400 and the 15202, which one is the most expensive, which one is the least, and more or less the range?
