Steve McQueen’s Rolex Submariner Ref. 5512 brought $234,000 including buyer’s premium at Antiquorum’s summer sale in New York City yesterday, setting a world record for that reference. Another McQueen item, his Scott Super Squirrel motorcycle painted by Von Dutch brought the highest bid of the day at $276,000. The Heuer Monaco McQueen wore during the 1971 filming of Le Mans far exceeded the pre-sale estimate, selling for $87,600. Other top performers included a Patek Philippe Ref. 5004 that brought $252,000 and an A. Lange & S?hne Tourbillon “Pour le M��rite” that brought $156,000. A Lange 1 Tourbillon in platinum sold for $144,000. Lot 299, a Patek Philippe Ref. 5250G Limited Edition Annual Calendar with Silicon Escape Wheel brought $138,000. I have a white gold sub and a 44mm Plat ROOIs the BLRO too similar to my smurf?Prefer to add a watch - could swap the smurf for the AP..but I think id miss the smurf (I LOVE the flat blue surrounded by white gold)Since I own an AP and a Rolex maybe the Patek is the right choice? The Explorer II 16570-3186 Is it considered rare?
I've been offered a white explorer II 16570 with a 3186 movt and the jeweler explained to me that it is a special watch coz it was produced in limited numbers and it have the engraved bezel. I declined the offer coz I'm not a big fan of the Exp-II. After getting back home and reading about it, i started thinking that I might buy it as an investment if it's gonna be considered rare in a few years. What do you guys know about this specific model? Icould it be a good catch?
