Whiplash Movie Editor Tom Cross Chooses Perfect Jaeger-LeCoultre Watch For Academy Awards
So, what watch does one wear to the Academy Awards as a first-time Oscar nominee? Admittedly, this was a new first-world problem for Tom Cross, who, as editor of the film Whiplash, recently received an Academy Award nomination for "Best Editing" - one of five Oscars Whiplash is up for this year. UPDATE: Tom Cross received the Academy Award (as well as Independent Spirit Award) for Film Editing for the movie Whiplash. This was a scenario Tom Cross did not anticipate when he started work on the labor-of-love indie drama. We were just happy to find out we got in to Sundance, explains? Cross of Whiplash's long, unexpected trajectory: first debuting at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, then becoming one of - if not the - most acclaimed films of the year.Shot in 19 days on a minuscule budget, Whiplash captures the psychological warfare between a young jazz drummer striving for virtuosity (Miles Teller) and his sadistic teacher/bandleader (J.K. Simmons) who punishes as much as pushes his dis
Hands-On: With The Patek Philippe 5140R And 5140P, Classic Perpetuals Both With New Dial Options For 2014
While the two big releases for Patek Philippe at Basel World this year both happened to be in stainless steel (the new Nautilus Chrono Travel Time 5990 / Annual Calendar Chrono 5960A), it's worth noting that one of its more understated and elegant, but important, timepieces received two updates. The reference 5140 is Patek's round, traditional perpetual calendar, and this year we saw two brand new dials. It is the follow up to the iconic 3940, which is considered to be one of the most important pieces of Patek's modern history – many consider it, along with the 3970, the first serially produced truly complicated timepiece. Its 20-year reign came to an end in 2006 when Patek showed the 5140, which would use the same ultra-thin, self-winding, micro-rotor-powered caliber 240Q. Since then, the 5140 has been shown in white gold, yellow gold, rose gold with brown dial, and platinum with a blue dial. 2 OF 4 The platinum case with a galvanized black dial features
Advice on first Speedmaster - Thoughts on 2009 38mm Day-Date & Ors
I'm in the market for a Speedmaster. I like most of them, but as cost is an issue I'm looking at buying the cheapest model I can get. I haven't spoken to an AD yet but was curious what the new price was (rrp) for an 'entry level' speedy.I've also come across a second hand Steel Speedmaster Day-Date 3220.50.00 2009 model at a jeweler that's probably 9 or 9.5 out 10 and they want $2,590 for it. Is this a fair price? or would this be quite close to the new price of a more basic model post haggling?Looking on Chrono24 I seem a bit unsure where prices should sit.I gather this particular day-date is 38mm. I have a 6.75 wrist and get on fine with my 40mm Rolex Sub and 44mm Panerai 112, am I likely to find the day-date unwearably small, my gut says no, but thoughts welcomed. Finally I haven't seen much by way of comments or reviews on the day-date, especially older models - anyone have an opinion I can factor into my thought making process? Thanks in advance.
Opinions from 243 owners
Looking at an I 243 with great patina. Anybody have opinions on the 243? I've had a 233, 305, and 422 but no t dials. Thoughts....
Trade: DD 228235 and an ROC black Panda
Hello, I'm looking for some opinions on this potential trade: DD 22835 RG Brown Motif Dial and an AP ROC SS Black Panda dial (latest model) for a Platinum DD40 Blue Motif dial. Current collection: SS Daytona ceramic white dial16610 Sub DD40 RGAP ROCI wear the DD when I go out or to fancy events. I daily the other three in a rotation, if I made this trade I would go down to three vs four and wear the Platinum daily in a rotation with the sub and Daytona. My hesitation ok the trade is giving up two great watches vs one amazing watch. I guess it's a decision between Quality vs quantity ? if someone could post some pictures that would be great 👍 I don know how to add them to a thread. (Newbie)
