Biver & Me: Exclusive Inside Look At Hublot Watch Manufacture
The myth of Jean-Claude Biver is as much a man, as the man himself. While many people wouldn't necessarily consider the CEO of a watch brand a celebrity or an icon; to watch lovers and people working in the industry, few people have the level of respect and close to attention that Mr. Biver enjoys. And enjoy it he does. The prize for the man's calculated efforts is a sense of pride and a pat-on-the-back attitude that comes naturally. Bright-faced and wide-eyed, Jean-Claude Biver (JCB) often has the enthusiasm of a teenager. Nevertheless, Jean-Claude prefers the simple joys in life, and is approachable in a way that can't be said for most men at the helm of high profile brands. Aside from his deeds as a watch maker, Biver is amusingly known second best for his famous cheese making a true Swiss, he does not disappoint.I had a rare opportunity to spend time with Mr. Biver on what I can only describe as a bring your journalist to work day. I fly to Switzerland, and travel to the Hublot
Recommendations for finding an AP 14790
*Responses via PM please (if that is the appropriate method to follow forum rules)I'm reaching out to see if any forum members have suggestions of how to find an AP 14790 with blue dial (discontinued 36mm Royal oak). I have been actively searching on the sales forums and chrono24, but have had no luck so far. Does anyone have recommendations of dealers who work with preowned APs or other methods of searching? I'm willing to look outside of the US and figured some forum members might be able to give a little bit of advice. Thank you very much for your time. I really appreciate any responses. Chris
The Official Platinum Day Date Owners Thread
There are a number of these 'Official Owner' threads out there. I've been so happy with my new 228206 that I thought it made sense to start one for all the platinum Day Date owners. Hoping you all participate - looking forward to seeing your photos!I'll start things off.
What is with polishing?
I am fairly new to the luxury watch market. I see that some people write about watches being polished , and that is looked down upon. Does this mean watches are simply Brillo padded to remove scratches or does this mean literally polishing with a bidding wheel to attempt to remove scratches and swirls? I am referencing tool watches like vintage GMT's and Subs. I don't really understand what the big deal is about polishing watches and why it is a negative.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Where do you wear your Rolex?
So I was talking to a watch buddy of mine. I own an Speedy and a Mark 18 that I wear almost anywhere with no issue. My Rolex Milgauss however, I do hesitant wearing it out to work meetings or to certain functions. Now don't get me wrong, I love wearing it. I just feel a bit self conscious in certain situations. Such as wearing it to visit my customers. Even though I'm driving a Honda Accord and I know many who drive 5 series or Lexus's that cost way more than my watch. Also they do not hold their value like my watches either.I'm not sure if I'm the only one who feels this way? Just wanted to hear others thoughts on the subject.
