Historical Perspectives: The True And Sad Story Of J.B. Champion, Jr., The Man Behind The Most Expen
On November 12, 2012, the watch collecting community watched in wonder as two of the world's most important Patek Philippe wristwatches went under the hammer at Christie's Geneva: a reference 2499 perpetual calendar chronograph in platinum?offered for sale by Eric Clapton (one of two white metal 2499s ever made, with the other belonging to Patek Philippe)?and a reference 2458 that was made especially for Joe Ben Champion, Jr. housing a movement that placed third in the 1948 Geneva Observatory competition. Each would have been the cover lot for any just about any other watch auction, but it just so happened that they were part of the same sale. new PP AD first in nine year in the USA
So, Hodinkee is reporting here:.hodinkee/blog/patek-p...ver-nine-yearsIMHO, it is sad (maybe a failure, really) that this brand, with its many wonderful pieces, cannot increase production while maintaining quality, expand its network and its presence in the world.I really don't believe in what many here (there, and everywhere...) will say in its defense: it is exclusive, rare, blah, blah, blah...So, now that I stated my piece, what you fellows think?
DateJust 41 choice of dials
On the site here, most of the talk has been about the blue dial, the black and an off white dial. At an AD this week who said there's a silver/ sticks dial available, very much like that on the DJ36; not in stock but I saw it in the dial catalog. Has anyone seen this in the 41?
