Incoming! First Royal Oak!
...unfortunately, not a Royal Oak for myself! When I first met my gf (back in 2007/8), I noticed she only had a Swatch, and wanted to get her a more 'proper' watch, so to speak. No better way than to start it off with a Seiko...Two years ago, for her birthday, I bought her something which made her really happy! But earlier this week, I think this one put a really, really, really big smile on her face Now, I'd been looking for a Lady Royal Oak for the longest time ever, and finally found one from a AD in the US. Unfortunately, the watch had some imperfections and I requested it be sent back to AP for some rectification. After a two month wait, I finally heard that AP didn't have the necessary parts, and the AD was not able to provide me with an estimate timeline when I would be able to finally purchase the watch. This one is a quartz, and an interim one, but I can tell she's happy nevertheless. Now, it is time for me to start saving up for a 15300...
Birthyear '79 Speedy Has Landed
My first Speedmaster Pro arrived this morning. While I initially thought about an earlier model, I settled on a birth year 1979 145.022. I am pretty pleased as the case is incredibly sharp, could be factory polish, and all of the parts appear original with the dial and hands having a pleasing patina. It came on the incorrect 1170 bracelet with 633 end links, which is not a big deal as I do not see myself ever wearing it on a bracelet.Overall, I am pretty pleased with this clean and honest example, and a birth year to boot! Now the hunt for an earlier pre-moon, maybe a 321? Who knows...
5035 vs Lange-matik Big Date
Hello Everyone,I always cringe at the this vs that threads' because lets be honest, it all comes down to personal taste. That being said, I do feel like comparing to fairly similar watches and getting the general opinion. The 5035 seems like a phenomenal value (preowned), and looks gorgeous, and it's a patek. The Langematik big-date also looks gorgeous, costs the same, and way less complicated (although the big-date complication is nice). So I'm just curious as to the opinion of the peanut gallery. Thanks!
Patek 5712 - how durable of a watch?
I've got two Rolexes and I'm looking for my final piece- which I'd buy in a few years. So the Patek 5712 is a possibility because of the design, the moonphase, the metal bracelet (no leather/cloth straps), and more specifically, I want a watch with a clear caseback. That being said, how durable/reliable is the 5712? Obviously I wouldn't be running/working out/letting my kid chew on the watch now and then (thank god for the Sub's 300m WR ) with the 5712. And I know that letting the Patek go on a decade without service like a Rolex isn't a realistic expectation either. My expectation is that I can desk dive and get it wet, i.e. if cooking or washing my hands and some water splashes on it and it will be OK. I also don't want a watch I need to send in every 3 yrs because of an issue. Now I love the Patek given the design & history, but what would ruin it for me is if it is too fragile to handle daily life or if I have to have it spend a 1/3rd of the time out for service. I don'
