Inside The Manufacture: Two Days With Parmigiani Fleurier (And Some Thoughts On What 'In-House' Really Means)
When we talk about fine watchmaking, the words “in-house” and “manufacture” invariably come up. We use them to describe how vertically integrated a company is – in other words how much of a watch is actually made by the company whose name is on the dial, rather than purchased from outside suppliers. Many a watch guy will say that, everything else being equal, the more in-house the better. When thinking about high degrees of vertical integration in the watch industry, the two brands at the very top of the ladder are Rolex and Seiko. However, arguably just one rung down on that ladder is Parmigiani Fleurier. HODINKEE took a trip to the beautiful town of Fleurier in Switzerland's Val-de-Travers to learn more. 1 OF 34 Fleurier, Val-de-Travers History Parmigiani Fleurier's namesake, Michel Parmigiani, is a world-renowned horological restoration specialist. Wrist cut by diver tank buckle
Hi,I was feeling some pain on my wrist and realized that my wrist was cut by the tank buckle of the diver watch. Upon closer examination I realized that the outer edges are very sharp.Anyone experience my encounter and any recommended solution.Cheers
Navitimer v. Montbrillant Datora
All:I have the opportunity to buy a breitling navitimer (black face, black croc band) or a Montbrillant Datora (Silver face, brown croc band) at cost. This is not grey market and the watch is from an AD, so no worries there. I do not so much want to keep the watch, but want to resale. Which watch will I have an easier time re-selling?Any input would be greatly appreciated
I almost bought an Omega today...
So I went to visit a local deal with the full intention of walking home with a new watch today. I hadn't quite made up my mind yet but I figured that between the new Omega Speedmaster Chrono Cal 9300, the Plofproof 1200m and the Planet Ocean 42mm Cal 8500 I would surely find one that sang to me.Started off with the Speedy Chrono: the bracelet rattled and the whole experience wasn't very solid. The matte dial is beautiful and I normally really like the look of two side-by-side registers/sub-dials, but when you see this model in real life they do sit a bit too far out towards the edge of the dial and they probably should have been slightly larger. And then the watch is thick, thick, thick due to the see-through back. Bummer, but who cares, let's move on to the next one.The new Planet Ocean. Some say better than the SubC - I'm looking forward to this one. The feel is a lot more solid than the Speedy. Great start. Matte dial. Check. Feels good on the wrist, overall a good size watch for my
If you have a PO (non-chrono) Big Size with serial numbers between 817092XX and 81734
If you have a PO (non-chrono) Big Size with a serial number between 817092XX and 817341XX. Please post here your s/n and if it has an anti-counterfeit stamp on the case cover.I am trying to get to the point in serial numbers where the PO (non-chrono) Big Size began having the stamp...thanks!817092XX stamp = NO817341XX stamp = YESThis may have no relevance for anything, as Omega may not systematically install the case backs in particular order with a given case (ie their case back stock may have backs with and without the stamp intermixed), but what the heck...we'll see what happens as replies come in.
