Orient Sparta Review
Ugh Here we go again. Sitting in front of me is a watch I really like. It's well made, nice looking, mechanical, a touch different but familiar nonetheless and more over, very affordable. Is it perfect? Nah, what watch is? Do I even want a perfect watch? If I found one wouldn't the hunt be over? It's not perfect at all, but it's great and its shortcomings are over ruled by its remarkable price. So, inevitably this is going to be another fairly positive review, sorry to those of you who think I'm too positive. I just love watches and the Orient Sparta, the subject of this review, is simply another great affordable watch. The Sparta is a hybrid of vintage military styles that come together to make something new. It was a rare opportunity to get it, mint case, clear movement and dial that made me thinking about it. Then I found many watches with similar dial, one on this forum, and started my research. Many claim it's redial, most without any knowledge about vintage Patek and dial production in 50's. What I found; those dials are made by enamel, so it quite a complicated work with baked dust. One jeweler told me that the only way to make those minute markers was drilling holes in finished dial, by hand explaining the inperfection, and filling them later. His opinion is that corrosion through 60 years made those turquoise color and black rings around. All dials I found look too similar, have too perfect fonts, and are on other parts of the
