IN-DEPTH: How The Number Three Cigarette In America Made Heuer A Household Name
“A tough year, 1971.” With these four words, Jack Heuer – then the 38-year-old President of Heuer Leonidas – opened the 1972 case study on his company by the Swiss business school IMEDE.The Heuer Time and Electronics Corp (HTEC), the American branch of the company, had enjoyed 11 consecutive years of increased sales heading into 1969. By 1970, the U.S. had become Heuer’s largest market, with $1.2 million in sales. However, 1971 was a different story. U.S. sales declined 19 percent (to $952,000) and HTEC suffered a loss of $154,000. Retailers were afraid of the chronographs.Jack Heuer Today’s collectors may imagine that, entering the 1970s, Heuer was enjoying momentum from introducing the world’s first automatic chronographs in 1969. Good Price on a used Grey Dial Datejust 36?
Hello all,Im a long time lurker, but as the topic states. I was wondering what a good starting price for a used grey dial 36mm datejust (Fluted bezel) would be. The significance or rarity isn't really a concern. Completely in the dark in terms of what a good value would be, and any potential pitfalls. Any help would be much appreciated.Thank you,Bo
How often do you wear your Rolex?
I'm a watch addict. I'm also a perfectionist. Scratches and dings bug me. It is impossible not to bump your wrist during our busy lifestyles. So I keep my favorite Rolex tucked away for special occasions. When I put it on it is always perfect. No scratches or dings. Fortunately I have a fair number of special occasions so it gets used monthly. I own a number of other (non-Rolex) watches that I alternate and maintain at the local watchmaker. He loves my business because I keep the other watches polished and replace crystals as needed. Taking three watches in tomorrow for the usual repairs. My last two Rolex watches went to the AD for service multiple times for scratches before I sold them and purchased a new gold 116233. Am I alone or are there others that feel the same way? Thanks!
