Orbita Sparta 1 Tesla Watch Winder Review
My journey through the interesting (and necessary) world of watch winders continues. Here is another impressive and relatively reasonably priced watch winder from American based Orbita. By the way, please be sure to enter to win a similar Orbita watch winder of your own during the rest of January 2010 here. If you are reading this and the giveaway has ended, you should still take a good look at Orbita for your watch winder needs, and this Sparta 1 Tesla is a solid option. For the novices out there, recall that watch winders are a convenient companion for automatic watches - but have no effect on manually wound movements. This might seem obvious to most of my readers, but for newer watch lovers this is an important distinction. The Sparta 1?Tesla features the same winding system as the Orbita Sparta 1 Mini that I reviewed here. But the style and packaging of the Tesla is more luxurious, as well as modular. While the Sparta 1 Mini was a smaller unit, the Sparta 1?Tesla is a bit larger and
Yachting Timers & Watches
At worn&wound we've long been fascinated by watches that were designed specifically for individual sporting events. This is part of a series on these unique timepieces.Yacht timers C also referred to as regatta timers, yachting chronographs, or sailing watches C are watches specially designed and made for the countdown to the start of a sailing race. As you can imagine, starting a race on water, with entrants powered by the wind, is not as easy as lining up on a grid, Formula 1 style, or lined up like sprinters at a track meet, waiting for the starting gun. As we just saw in the recent America's Cup races in San Francisco, the yachts (we use the term loosely in the case of the America's Cup boats) are already at speed as they approach the starting line. The trick for the skipper is to NOT cross the starting line before the starting gun goes off. If they do, they're penalized quite heavily (how and how much depends on the rules in effect for the specific race).photo by Daniel HallSo
So exactly how big is the "44mm" ROO? (Comparison Pic)
Here's a comparison pic of the 44mm ROO next to a 46mm Bell & Ross and a 47mm PAM305. If you ask me, the 44mm ROO almost looks bigger than those two watches. They might advertise it as a 44mm watch, but it definitely wears more like a 47mm watch! Not that I'm complaining though...
To all the lovely ladies in TRF
Happy belated Valentine's Day! ok... it's very belated because I just downloaded the photo today
