Video: How Harry Winston’s New Opus XIII Works
As per usual, Harry Winston generated a fair amount of buzz at the 2013 Baselworld watch fair with the latest timepiece in its haute-de-gamme Opus collection. This year’s piece, the Opus XIII, turned heads with its 242 functional rubies and unconventional time indication by means of tiny, pivoting markers around the dial. Developed in cooperation with watchmaker Ludovic Ballouard, who helped develop F.P. Journe’s Grand Sonnerie, the Opus XIII has 11 triangular hour hands, which peek out from a dome in the dial’s center and retract at the end of each hour, and 59 little minute markers (each five-minute marker is red-tipped), which pivot toward the center of the dial as a new minute begins. At the end of the hour, all 59 minute markers pivot back to their original position?at once, in a dynamic, wave-like motion, and the process begins again. Hands-On: With The Gr?nefeld Parallax Tourbillon (Live Pics + Official Pricing)
Basel World is always a lot of fun for us. Not only do we get to see all of the newest releases from the big boys like Omega, Rolex, TAG Heuer, Blancpain, Patek, and Breguet, but we also get to see some friends that we only get to hang with a few times per year. It's even more fun when some of those friends happen to be some really talented watchmakers doing things in a completely different way than those guys mentioned above. The Gr?nefeld Brothers are truly talented watchmakers (both trained at Renaud et Papi), and two honestly good guys. Which is why it's so great to see them pushing things past their time-only, mega-bad ass One Hertz with oversized dead-seconds and show us a brand new in-house tourbillon: The Parallax. 2 OF 5 Blake was nice enough to give us a run-down on this piece when it was announced (read full details here) so I'll just point out a few things that struck me about this watch. First, it really is a direct extension of the One Hertz, aesthetically.
Something Weird Happened
Hello Friends,Tonight after wearing my Omega 3570.50 for three days (received the watch on Tuesday) and noticing how it was only gaining 2 seconds per day, suddenly I looked at my watch this evening and it was 1 hour behind. Don't know when this happened or why, but the real time was 9:45pm, but the watch was showing 8:45pm. I know I'm supposed to wind the watch everyday, and I've been doing that except it's been in the evening and not the morning, simply because I forget in the morning. Anyone have any idea what happened? Thanks in advance.
