Basel Preview: Glashtte Original Limited Edition Senator Observer 1911 – Julius Assmann
Ahead of Baselworld 2012, Glashtte Original presents the Limited Edition Senator Observer 1911 – Julius Assmann. This timepiece, handmade in the firm's manufactory, is limited to 25 pieces and pays homage to the pioneering spirit of Julius Assmann and Roald Amundsen. Find wallpaper images inside. Julius Assmann started his company at the age of 25 and is revered today as one of the founding fathers of watchmaking in Glashtte. Pocket watches, chronometers and observation watches crafted by Assmann and his employees were to play a significant role in establishing the company's far-reaching reputation: the observation watches in particular were known for their remarkable precision and superior craftsmanship. In 1907/08, the young Glashtte watchmaker Paul L?we crafted a watch that proved to be exceptionally precise, and he was urged to send it for testing to the German Naval Observatory in Hamburg, the institute officially responsible for testing and certifying the accuracy of nav
Bulova Ups Their Watch Game In Los Angeles
I continue to feel that, for the money, one of the coolest watches around is a piece in the Bulova Accutron II collection. A mixture of classic good looks with the Accutron II movement (essentially, the Bulova Precisionist with its higher-than-standard accuracy for a quartz watch, with a sweeping seconds) is a fantastic way to spend just a few hundred bucks on a timepiece. The Accutron II, however, wasn't what Bulova was celebrating the other night at the Feldmar Watch Company store here in Los Angeles. They were presenting the commercial version of what will be among the most exclusive watches in the world from one of the biggest brands C the Bulova Accu-Swiss Percheron 24k gold watch that we first debuted back at Baselworld 2014. It is the first watch in the world that has a solid 24k gold case. A bit odd at first, I have to say that the insane concept behind the 24k gold watch has grown on me, assuming I had a spare $42,000 to spend. The Bulova Percheron 24k Gold watch is the pinnacle
Watches In The White House 2010 - Obama, Biden, Kagan
Politics and watch lover aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer reader Eric sent me this perfect image showing off the watches of (from left to right), Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Elena Kagan. I love the clarity here, and the visibility of the watches. Biden has been known to wear a few watches, including an Omega Seamaster, a Citizen, and here a Tissot T-Touch. Look at him show that puppy off - as though he is incredibly proud of it. Nothing under the sleeve! Good work Biden! Represent us watch lovers proudly. So let's take a quick look at the watches and what they mean and cost.Joe Biden is clearly the biggest watch lover of this trio. While Obama has a number of watches (I know, because I am told all the time by watch brands what models they give him). Here, he is wearing a first generation Tissot T-Touch watch on a rubber strap. You can click that link for a product page where you can see more specs and get one. It retails for $750 - being the priciest of the trio, but interestingly the least
Hands-On: The Greubel Forsey Signature 1, A Top-Tier Time-Only (Live Photos, Thoughts, Availability & Pricing)
At SIHH 2015, Greubel Forsey shocked us all by making a thin(ner), small(er), less expensive tourbillon called the Tourbillon 24 Seconds Vision. Now when you're talking about Greubel – arguably within top three finest watchmakers in the world – and potentially top one watchmaker in the world for median price per watch – everything is relative. By thin, I mean the 24 seconds is around 13.5 mm with a 16 mm bubble; by small, I mean it is 43.5 mm in diameter; and by inexpensive, I mean just over $300,000. But again, for a company that does not relent when it comes to quality, that was a great step towards a watch that was (more) wearable and affordable than previous offerings. The Tourbillon 24 Seconds Vision was received so positively that it took top prize at the 2015 Grand Prix of Horology. 1 OF 11 Signature 1 is Greubel Forsey's first watch with just hours, minutes, and seconds. At SIHH 2016, Greubel Forsey took things even further by introd
