Back To The Basics With German Nomos Watches
On goes the stream of German watches that adorn these pages. I simply cannot cease mentioning the bounty of impressive watches coming out of German. Nomos is one of Germany's more established and recognizable watches. They are built in the Glashutte (Glashuette) region of Germany, but should not be confused with other watches which display the "Glashutte" name, which is merely a region. Thus, Glashutte Original, and Muhle Glashutte are different watches.Each Nomos watch has a similar look, and most each model is a hand-wound manually operated mechanical movement. Wonderfully enough, Nomos produces it's own movements which is places in most watches. This is incredible given the average price of Nomos watches are between $1,500 and $2,500. To some, the fact that some Nomos Watches are hand-wound is a detriment. Yes, you do have to spend the time winding the watches each day, but the watches are very thin. Waiting for Daytona-C get option on Patek 5711
A few months ago I was enjoying my friends watch collection, mostly Patek Philippe with a few Rolex thrown in for good measure. While admiring his Daytona-Cs (a white and black face) my eye caught his blue dial PP 5711/1A - what an amazing watch especially in real life. Now I understand the passion for this particular model - incredible dial, timeless design, cool crystal back, elegant simplicity and of course highest quality.Next morning, we are at the AD and I'm adding my name to the list for the 5711 even though it seems the waiting list can compete admirably with the Daytona which I'd been patiently waiting for. Oh well, you never know, perhaps we'll be debating new POTUS candidates before we see any action on these. Then surprise, a call from the AD this weekend with option to take a 5711 that just came in. What a beauty. My first PP. What election?

Panerai PAM600 Radiomir Minute Repeater Tourbillon GMTA day that many of us wondered would ever come. Panerai after years of research has released their first ever minute repeater model. Of course Panerai had to do things a little differently with their minute repeater. Instead of the second gong striking for every 15 minutes, Panerai's model does it for each 10 minute interval which cuts down on the chimes and makes it easier to tell the time from the sound. The watch is also dual time GMT and you can select which time to have the minute repeater chime out. It's going to be a made to order piece that can be customized by the buyer.
