Chopard L.U.C Engine One H Watch
For 2013 Chopard?will release a new version of the L.U.C Engine One watch that was originally debuted back in 2010 (we have some hands-on pictures here). The new watch is called the L.U.C Engine One H, "H" likely standing for "horizontal," which is exactly what is new about this timepiece. The in-house made Chopard L.U.C tourbillon movement has been inserted into the case horizontally versus vertically. The result is a fresh looking design.Frankly I like the new design better. Mostly because I like the increased size wearable on the wrist. The manually wound movement was designed to look roughly engine-like, especially with those linear grooves - a style you've seen in a new generation of more simple in-house made Chopard movements that we debuted here. The titanium case will be 44.5mm wide with an exhibition caseback with a view of the caliber o4.02 L movement. Functions include the time, power reserve indicator, and of course a tourbillon. How do you feel about that nice thick leathe
Tourbillon Enlargement: The Rodolphe Instinct 5456 Big Tourbillon Watch
After talking about the world's smallest tourbillon, I thought it would be a good idea to talk about one that was twice as large. The Rodolphe Instinct has a tourbillon that is 23mm wide (the smallest so far is 11.3mm wide). The width of the case is 56mm and is 54mm high. Really massive, and able to hold the complex movement. The watch is purely mechanical but displays the hours and minutes digitally using rotating cylinders, which I find very effective. Then, there is also a power reserve indicator that is also featured on a rotating cylinder. On the left side you have the massive tourbillon with the "R" for Rodolphe. The arrow at the top of this "R" indicates the seconds as the massive tourbillon spins once every 60 seconds. This feature takes up about half of the dial, and adds a constant source of visual movement which makes the watch more interesting to look at. The digital readout of the hour and minute is great looking. Nicely modern, even though it is basic and legible. This is t
General thoughts on the 3970
Curious what people think of the 3970. It is by no means as illustrious as it's younger brother the 5970. But curious what people think of it in comparison to the 5270, 5970, 2499, 1518 ect....in some ways I feel like it's the black sheep of the family and the least desirable. The reason I ask is I feel it's amazing, the movement is great as we all know. The piston style pushers I prefer, the diameter and lugs and overall case is gorgeous. I realize there are a LOT of them out there and a lot were produced. Even white metal black dial...Thanks
5146 update?
I've decided to purchase both a 5711/1A and a 5146G (creme), though plan to space out the purchases to spread out the cost and to appreciate/savor each individually.I'm itching for a 5146, but what gives me pause is that it has been out for a while so could be due for an update. If it will be updated in a year or two, I'd love to be able to decide between the two versions rather than regret having bought the old version recently. Therefore, I'm leaning towards getting the 5711 and waiting on the 5146, but would appreciate any thoughts, particularly on the likely update cycle for the 5146.
