A Tour Of The Museum In Breitling's New York City Boutique With Technical Director Gerhard Loitz
Breitling's three-story boutique on New York's 57th Street is one of the largest watch stores in the city. What you might not know though is that in addition to a full collection of new watches (ground floor) and a lounge and bar (third floor), the boutique also houses a small vintage museum tucked behind the watchmaking department on the second floor. Included are beautiful chronographs from the early 20th century, funky '70s sport watches, and modern milestones in Breitling's development. Here's a little tour of this hidden gem.?When visiting the Breitling boutique last week, I was fortunate enough to have Breitling Technical Director Gerhard Loitz as my guide to the museum, shedding a lot of light on the little details that make these pieces part of Breitling's history. 116719BLRO Evolution
So the white gold BLRO has in fact not been discontinued but instead ha been morphed if you will. My first reaction was that the blue dial version of the Pepsi was simply a gimmick which breaks with historical DNA just to keep the high margins on this piece flowing. This may very well be the case but I see more now. While breaking with the Pepsi black dial history, the new blue dial is in line with the Rolex and other manufacturer history of offering certain blue dials exclusively on PM pieces. I am looking forward to seeing this dial live because I think it may be chameleon like, especially with the matte shading and could look almost black in certain low light conditions and very blue in bright sunlight playing nicely off the hues of the bezel. Rolex and others have also historically offered more interesting or chameleon like dials on PM pieces and the blue Smurf dial is an example. For clarity, I am not saying that Rolex does not offer interesting dials on SS models, jus
