Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends January 3, 2014
A Happy New Year to all!We begin the new year with lots of high-end watches from A. Lange & S?hne, F.P. Journe, Kari Voutilainen and Maitres du Temps. We also find out how the Rolex Submariner became the icon that it is today; revisit the case of the Swatch Group versus Tiffany & Co.; learn more about the history of Laco; and finally see how an IWC Ingenieur 5005 is repaired.1. F.P. Journe Sonnerie Souveraine Watch Hands-OnFran?ois-Paul Journe is one of the most talented watchmakers of our generation and the Sonnerie Souveraine is arguably his proudest creation - it is said that he wears it everywhere. The impressive thing about the Sonnerie Souveraine is that it was designed to be simple to operate and to be as mechanically durable and hardy as possible. For a closer look at this watch, which happens to be Journe's personal piece, hit the link below.Source: watches-dealer2. Pateks 2nd hand above retail
So it seems the message boards are active with all the talk about upcoming 5711/12 steel price increases and concern whether it is selective or will be across the board on all Nautilus or all sport or all steel or all men's, etc etc models. It would seem to me that if the goal were to diminish the 2nd hand/grey market-reseller position, then PP price increases would be selective to those models that resell for a premium greater than retail price. This isnt a perfect science however as the 5712/1A tends to sell slightly below retail and it appears to be subject to the price increase. We all know about 5711 being the prototypical example selling for 40-60% premium above retail. BUT, what are the other models in similar situations and what percent above retail do they resell for?
Servicing questions
Apologies if this is already covered elsewhere, but as a PP newbie, I am wondering whether forum members actually do have their prized watches serviced as often as recommended, and what percentage have them serviced by PP.I ask this as a Rolex wearer who has been regularly wearing the same watch for close on 40 years, which been serviced once during that time and yet still keeps perfect time !I am considering the purchase of a factory sealed Grand Complication manufactured in 2007, for everyday wear. Will that theoretically need a service before it is worn and (leaving aside maintaining value) does it justify a PP service given that it should be in perfect mechanical condition ?If anyone has a recommendation for a reliable watchmaker in London, who is up to servicing complicated PP watches, a recommendation would also be appreciated (by PM if appropriate ?).
Why the SD43....?
