Baselworld 2014 Preview: New Ladies’ and Men’s Mido Watches
Mido watches have only a cult following in the U.S. but are very popular elsewhere in the world, particularly Latin America. This week, the brand, known for offering Swiss-made mechanical watches at affordable prices, released previews of two new Mido watch models one men’s, one ladies’ debuting at next month’s Baselworld. For the ladies, Mido has released two new models of its Mido Commander Lady collection, which the brand has manufactured continuously since 1959. The Mido Commander Lady Sunray Satinated has a steel case with a rose-gold-colored PVD treatment and a silver dial with a sunray satinated pattern, while the Commander Lady Mother of Pearl has a stainless steel case and an iridescent white mother-of-pearl dial. The case contours of the Mido Commander Lady, as well as the faceted hour markers on the dials, are inspired by the Art Nouveau lines of Paris’s Eiffel Tower, Mido says. (How do you pronounce Mido? Harry Winston Midnight GMT Tourbillon Only Watch 2011
You can't buy it. Well technically you can, but you need to fly to Monaco in September and bid really high. This is Harry Winston's entry into the Only Watch 2011 charity auction that I keep profiling when new entries are released. Harry Winston's offering is this Midnight GMT Tourbillon (ref. 450/MATTZ45PL.A). The reason I am giving it extra attention is due to the way I feel it encapsulates much of what the modern Harry Winston watch brand is trying to be - and there will be just one piece. The movement inside of the watch is not new. It comes from an existing GMT Tourbillon watch in the Ocean, not Midnight collection. It may have been used in other HW pieces before. Though I do like its execution on this watch better. The automatic movement has a large power reserve of 110 hours and features a dial exposed tourbillon, off-centered time display, and a word-time function. The second timezone is first selected with the reference city being show in a small window at about 11 o'clock, and
Welcoming New aBlogtoRead.com Female Watch Blogger Molly McDermott
You no doubt have been reading a few articles on here about female watches and thought to yourselves that the tone doesn't quite sound like me. Hopefully at that point you noticed that the author of the blog article was not me, but rather the newest addition to aBlogtoReadwatches-dealer; who will regularly be commenting on the watch world in addition to myself. So please welcome Molly McDermott, who is here to bring a different perspective to watch appreciation.Molly is a veteran of the watch industry? - an experience that gives her a special insight and perspective on how to view and discuss the nicer things in life (that you can buy). Starting with bridal wear and the jewelry, she ended up working with luxury watches, until recently - but the passion and interest remains. It doesn't hurt that she is quite opinionated and energetic as well. You can be sure that she'll be honest with her thoughts but come at concepts with a tasteful and discerning eye. While Molly is going to be focusi
Bee-live it
YES!Now, on my next acquisition..FC Diver?or...Ceramic Diver? The more I look at the ceramic diver, the more i see it to be a refined piece of work. Plus it being at 20% cheaper than the FC + exhibition case makes it as desirable as the FC.Hope to see the Ceramic in KL/SG AP Boutique in July when i head back home.Should i venture into the future and hold Ceramic close to my heart? or the FC to complement the bee + its beautiful FC case with limited production units ( rendering it more exclusive ). Decisions.. decisions..Help anyone? haha(Photo Courtesy of Howard aka boa2 from TZ)
Tudor Pelagos HEV orientation question
Since my last fiasco with the well done fake Pelagos I got off ebay my search has led me to start obsessing over visual clues that would indicate a potential fake out there. My search is focused on the 25500tn as I prefer the 2 liner and the eta movement for ease of service, most importantly it is not as thick coming in under 14mm at 13.8mm (per what research I've found). On to my question - I've noticed the orientation of the HEV text is different on some as opposed to others - any rhyme or reason...or am I over analyzing this? There is one for sale from one of the most notable trusted sellers out there, but the HEV orientation on the particular watch has me hesitant. I know they fully stand 100% behind their products, but after getting burned once I'm cautious on the next purchase. thoughts?
