Watch Wallpaper: 5 Amazing Views Inside the A. Lange & S?hne Cabaret Tourbillon
In the photo essay “Through the Looking Glass” in WatchTime’s December 2008 issue, we took readers inside the micro-mechanical wonderland of A. Lange & S?hne’s Cabaret Tourbillon. Now these exclusive images by photographer Jorg Wischmann are available as downloadable wallpaper for your computer’s desktop.Click on each image for the larger version. Explanations of the technological detail in each photo are in the captions.Like little arrows, these golden screws point toward the balance spring inside the balance. The screws are used to finely adjust the mechanism. If the duration of each oscillation of the balance needs to be shortened, milling miniscule amounts of metal from the screws' heads can reduce their weight. The opposite result can be achieved by inserting tiny washers. Lange manufactures these tiny screws to a tolerance of two micrometers and then plates them with gold. This blued steel screw keeps the intermediate-gear cock in its proper place
Rolex Submariner & Daytona Black & Gold Modified Watches
I am taking credit for these watches. I met with Time & Gems a while ago when seeing their progress with DLC and PVD treatments on Rolex watch modifications, and suggested that they give a two tone "Rolesor" watch this type of treatment. Black and gold is a very nice combo, (especially yellow gold and black), and to be honest, I don't think I've ever seen a Rolex mod that did this (though I could be wrong). So what Time & Gems did is black DLC coat the steel portions of these watches, and leave the gold parts of the watch and the dials alone. DLC is a very hard coating and is becoming favored to PVD at many brands. Time & Gems seems to confused the term DLC and PVD - and they seem to use them both. You can read more about the watch on their blog here. So unless I am missing something, these watches are DLC coated, not PVD. Pardon their confusion.Time & Gems likes to work with pre-owned Rolex watches as a way of breathing life back into them. I think both the Daytona "Bl

2 Annual Calendars - An Overkill?
Dear All, I guess this is another first world problem. I recently got a 5396G (breguet numerals). My AD also showed me a 5205 RG with a white / cream dial during the process and I fell in love with it. I don't have a RG piece, while I am not sure whether I want to have 2 annual calendars. I know it is all very subjective at the very end but what do you think? (I might probably buy it anyways as long as I don't face a crazy resistance from my wife :thumbsup )
Unexpected incoming (Hulk)
I stopped in my local AD looking to add my name to a GMT list (that doesn't exist apparently). I was kindly offer this instead though. Wasn't expecting, but not complaining.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
