Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic Acciaio (Updated with Live Photos & Price)
Panerai launches its new timepieces for 2016 at the SIHH watch salon in Geneva this week. Loyal Paneristi will note that one of them, the new Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Automatic Acciaio, is the first in that collection to feature a white dial a rarity in the Panerai portfolio overall. The watch which comes in the familiar Radiomir 1940 cushion-shaped case, measuring 42 mm in diameter and made of polished 316L stainless steel strives for clarity in its dial, with large, black Arabic numerals at the hour markers and small seconds set aside on a subdial at 9 o’clock. Dots at each hour position (two at 12 o’clock), treated with luminous paint, aid in nighttime legibility. The case, whose proportions and shape are faithful to those of the original 1940 model for which the watch is named, is only 10.93 mm thick and has a polished. stainless steel winding crown bearing a relief “OP” (for “Officine Panerai”) logo. The Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days Auto
Historical Perspectives: 'The Watch & The War' C A Short Film Tracing The History Of A 1938 Panerai Radiomir That Belonged To An American Intelligence Officer
Watches tell the time, but they sometimes also tell us history. Filmmaker Benedict Campbell's short film "The Watch & The War" tells the story of Benedict Brucia, an American naval intelligence officer during World War II, and the origin of his very special watch – a 1938 Panerai Radiomir with a Rolex movement. As a young boy, Jim Brucia admired his uncle Ben's curious wristwatch. He ended up inheriting the watch in 1972, but never learned what his uncle did during the War. In 2007, Jim Brucia uncovered the history behind the Panerai watch, and in turn discovered what his late uncle did during WWII. 1 OF 1 Benedict Brucia In this short film, HODINKEE's own Benjamin Clymer joins Jim Brucia to explain the historical significance of this important watch. For more on the filmmakers, click here.

Impact of replacement cases on valuation
Hi all,Just wanted to get an expert's opinion on this as I can't seem to find a clear quantitative answer online (other than all-original, triple-signed watches being generally more valuable). If I were to buy a Patek with an original movement and dial, but a replaced case, by how much should I haircut the original value, and how much would that impact its potential resale value? The new case is in 18-kt gold, also Swiss-made, if that matters. The condition is great otherwise. Thanks all! Cathy
