SIHH Preview: Parmigiani Tonda 1950
Simple is easy, if you don’t mind wearing the equivalent of a stick figure on your wrist. Simple with elegance and style is decidedly more difficult. Proportions and details must be perfect. With the Tonda 1950, the designers at Parmigiani Fleurier capture the brand’s essence with a few brushstrokes. Parmigiani’s newest movement – the twelfth in-house caliber from the manufacture – is the PF 700, an extra-thin automatic that powers the Tonda 1950. The movement is 30mm or 13 ? lignes in diameter and just 2.6 mm thick, with an off-center micro-oscillating weight in platinum 950. A single barrel provides 42 hours of autonomy. The nickel silver main plate is sand-blasted, circular-grained and then rhodium-plated. The bridges are sand-blasted, rubbed-down or “C?te de Genve” decorated, then beveled by hand and, finally, rhodium-plated. Also note the attractive finish of each wheel, beveled, sunk, circular-grained on both faces, then gilded before cut
Three Way Trade= Pepsi Jubilee
Hi, so after many days of trolling through the internet for a suitable super jubilee, I've come up with a (temporary?) solution using what's on hand.U serial 16570 Polar gets SEL Oyster bracelet from Y serial 16710 Pepsi;7,2xxx (birth year) 16014 gets HEL Oyster from 16570;Y serial 16710 gets 62510H jubilee from 16014... & viola! Had to slightly adjust the DJ's 555 endlinks to fit the Pepsi but all seems to fit okay. Don't worry, I am on the hunt for more suitable 502t endlinks! Bonus is that my DJ instantly becomes more wearable and the SEL bracelet upgrade significantly improves the previously rattly Polar! Anyway, this was my quick and nasty remedy to catching Basel-Pepsi fever (it's going around) without having to endure the years long wait list from the AD or inevitable extortionist grey markups... or am I doing it wrong? Why does Rolex not put the new GMT movement in all the new GMT models?
What on earth are they thinking? Both the new blue dial WG model and green dial YG model are listed as having the older 3186 movement.
My Afternoon visit at Rolex Canada
While at work, I decided to pop into Rolex Canada head office today on the spur of the moment to get my YM2 bracelet ultrasonically cleaned. As I recently purchased the SD43, I'm getting ready to put the YM2 away for a bit while I wear my new toy so I wanted to get the bracelet cleaned properly before boxing it.As it was spur of the moment, I forgot my warrantee card at home. On other occasions that I have gone over to Rolex Canada, I've always prepared by bringing the card along with me.I called from work first before going to see if they could squeeze me in. No problem was the answer. Come on in! So I went in during my lunch hour. It's been about 3 years since I last visited Rolex Canada and let me say, things change every time I go. My very first visit to Rolex Canada back in 2007, I just walked through their unlocked front door to an elevator and went up to the 2nd floor. The next time I went to RC in 2012, they knocked one of the walls down in the main lobby and put in a se
