Hamilton for 2009: BASE Jumping, Diving, and More
Some say the trend toward ever-larger watches is slowing, but you would not know it to look at Hamilton's new 50mm Khaki BASE Jump watches. That's BASE as in parachuting off of Buildings, Antennas, Spans and Earth. Available in automatic and chronograph versions, we will focus on the latter as it presents an interesting twist (pun intended): the timing functions are activated by turning the bezel, not by pushing buttons. Twist the bezel counter-clockwise to start and stop, then clockwise to reset. The BASE Jump is powered by a modified version of ETA's 7750 movement, and we're told that the movement is exclusive to Hamilton. The BASE Jump sports a sapphire crystal and 100 meter water resistance. The chronograph is available in titanium or black or bronze PVD with a black or bronze dial on a black rubber or brown leather strap. All models are priced at $1945. The ETA 2824-powered automatic version is available in stainless steel and black or bronze PVD and it's priced at $1195.Heading f
Making It Fit........The Bracelet.
Omega uses pins to hold the bracelet together. To confound this, the nice clasp they provide does not have any micro-holes for adjustment..But you can do it:First you need a couple of simple tools. Either a bracelet pin removal tool...orA pin punch the approximate diameter (smaller) of the pins.A small hammer to tap the pin out.A pair of small pliers to pull out and insert the pin.Something like this:Looking at the links from the backside, some small arrows can be seen etched in the removable links. The pins are pushed out in the direction of the arrows.Place the bracelet in a padded vice, or hold sturdily on a piece of padded wood....or two with a small space between for the pin to have room to come out. After the pin is started out, it can be pulled the rest of the way with the pliers. This photo shows two pins partially out. Here we see the parts. You will notice we have two full links and one 1/2 link. The other parts are the locking tube and the pin. This photo also shows th
Rolex AD dodgy or legitimate offer of sale.
I had the oddest experience with a Rolex AD. In there window they have an ex display section. These watches it is claimed by the AD are not technically pre owned as the dealer is clearing old discontinued stock. The AD said there name is stamped on the warranty card and the customer gets the remainder of the 5 year warranty and all stickers are taken off the watch. They are selling a Date Just 2,for ?3995!!! This sold for ?5250 originally. In contrast the grey market jeweller is selling ta similar DJ2 watch at ?4750 from 2016 with remainder of Rolex warranty. Are Rolex allowed to sell old discontinued stock like this or does AD sell at full retailer. The security guard would not let me take pictures. Is this legit???
