Watch Insider’s Take: Will the New Smartwatches Conquer Our Wrists?
In this article from my blog, Watch-Insider, I look at the recent phenomenon of “smartwatches” released by technology companies and weigh in on whether these devices are destined to supplant the mechanical watch and conquer that valuable piece of real estate that is the wrists of watch wearers.Samsung?just presented its Galaxy Gear, Sony?has its SmartWatch, Pebble?sells an?E-Paper Watch and Apple will probably announce its iWatch very soon.Recently, I have been asked many times what I personally think of those “smartwatches.” Even a well-known European newspaper wanted to hear my opinion. In short, I am not sure if these watches are likely to become a mass phenomenon on our wrists. After all, years ago, Seiko presented a “television-watch” for the wrist that could receive dozens of programs, but the watch flopped. Why? The design was awful and who wanted to watch TV on his wrist? Samsung Galaxy GearToday, I see the same issues. Smartphones have a
A Week On The Wrist: The Baume & Mercier Capeland Flyback Chronograph
After years of languishing as the often overlooked little brother in la famlia de Richemont, Baume & Mercier is coming back. Flying back, you might say. Leading the return to the company's former glory is a new flagship model, the Capeland Flyback Chronograph, reference 10006. This is a watch that merits more than a passing glance and, even for a self-confessed dive watch junkie, was one I didn't want to send back after a week on my wrist. The Very Best Of Baume, Born Again 2 OF 7 In 2011, Baume et Mercier gave the Capeland series a badly-needed reboot and the company looked to its past for inspiration, drawing from classic designs from the 40s and 50s. While the standard Capeland chronograph is handsome enough, the Flyback Chronograph is a near-perfect marriage of retro design cues with modern size and build. The watch's beauty is more than skin deep however, with a beautifully decorated unique flyback chronograph movement by La Joux-Perret. The whole package is bewitch

Go Offshore in Style
Another milestone, another celebration! This year we see AP refreshes its basic 42mm ROO line after a successful 20 years of voyage. Much have been discussed about since SIHH 2014, the good, the doubtful, the controversial and AP has been busy going around the world to officially launch these new timepieces in style. It's always a pleasure to attend one of these parties to witness and celebrate the happy occasion. This time, AP Singapore picked a tranquil location at the popular Dempsey Hill area for the event. As usual, the setting was trendy, the food was exquisite, the atmosphere was merry and overall feeling was appropriately Offshore chic :) Oliviero and guestsAssorted cheese and pastryPotato chips that looked like dry leaves!Edible sandMy snacksThere was a display corner at one end of the party hall which was set up to showcase the iconic 42mm ROO timepieces from its birth in 1993 till date. It was fascinating to see those elusive Limited Editions which are usually rare to be see
Got my new Omega! Two-tone beauty...
OK guys,I have been searching long and hard and have come close a couple times to some Omegas that I thought I liked as a long term daily wearer but now that things have settled down at my work place I pulled the trigger on this beauty and picked her up in person from the seller this past Saturday.Seeing the pics had me drooling for this watch! I have never owned a Titanium watch before and have never had a two tone either though a watch with both has always appealed to me. The seamaster is my fave in the Omega line and I have owned many over the years. The bond version has never appealed to me as much as the 300m version with those beautiful sword hands. Now I have a watch that sports 18k red gold and is light as a feather titanium and I can not describe how beautiful this combination is on my wrist. The glossy black dial fits so well with the Ti and gold. The red accents of the timers and the tip of the chrono hand is just the right colour accent. The blazing brightness of the lume c
