HourTime Show Watch Podcast Episode 84
We discuss what happens when there is no quality control before a brand announces a new product, as well as what happens when a brand (Hublot) announces a cool new product (the Antikythera watch) that will never be available for sale. I recap my review of the lovely Ulysse Nardin Freak Diavolo, and my article on Dubois-Depraz that eventually got me in trouble.Listen to the HourTime Show watch podcast episode 84 here.Download the MP3.
15202 options
Today I was looking at a 15202 SS at a AD, tried it on and I am concerned about the size. Compared to the rest of my collection the Jumbo seems small, pun intended. (WG Sub, 5726, DDII Plat, SS Daytona, Breitling Nav). Also I picked up a ROO Safari today while I was there, love it will post a pick soon (my first AP!).I know that the 15202 is such a coveted piece but the 15400 and 26320 seem like a better fit. However, I do love the RG band, although having only seen it on the larger version and was thinking with the additional weight of the RG this might be a better fit/feel on the 15202.Why so little mention of the RG jumbo?
Considering First PP: 5119r vs 5726 strap
Went to the AD last week and finally got to try on some PP's for the first time in my life!! The 5119r and the 5726 strap are standing out among the relatively few pieces that are within my humble budget.I currently have the AP diver (weekend) and a Rolex sea-dweller (daily) and what I am looking for in the next one is a watch that I can dress up with for events (cocktail parties, weddings, etc).I really love the 5119r's classic look yet the size of the watch is slightly small and I am just scared that I could only wear it in the most formal occasions. The 5726 has a beautiful dial, the complication and is a lot more versatile yet I find it hard to part with so much money for a steel watch!Besides a comparison of both watches, I am also very interested to hear your opinions on expensive steel watches.
US Import Tax on Rolex from EU
Does anyone know how to calculate the import tax on a Rolex purchased and shipped from overseas, valued in the US$10k range? Anyone have experience purchasing a watch from Europe and having it shipped to the US? Anything I should know before getting into a trans-continental purchase with an established and reputable dealer?

Picked up a Black Bay in house black a short while ago, but didn't totally satisfy the itch. Been looking at lots of stuff online, and one day maybe a BLNR but none around and not willing to pay grey premium. Looked at lots of vintage but had a 1680 a couple years back and only kept it a year, so decided to not go back down that road. Other than that, wanted to try on DJ41 and Explorer.Local AD had the exact smooth bezel blue Oyster 41 I've been lusting after, and it's super nice on the wrist but a touch formal for me for every day, so I was willing to walk away. Also tried on a 36 but too small. When I mentioned interest in the 39 Explorer, they said they had one in back on deposit hold but they'd let me look. Yup, great look great fit. Pics online make it look bigger than reality, in case you are in doubt! Would I take one today if they had one downtown? Yes, but none. So they phoned the person with the hold, and got their OK to wait for the next shipment expected next month.
