A. Lange & S?hne Unveils its Grand Complication at SIHH
Avid fans and collectors of A. Lange & S?hne are now one step closer to their Holy Grail: the German watch brand announced at the SIHH in Geneva that it will release its long-anticipated Grand Complication wristwatch this year and, from the standpoint of complications, it looks to be even more than many expected. For a watch to meet the traditional criteria of a grand complication, it must include, in addition to hours, minutes and seconds, a perpetual calendar, chronograph, and minute repeater. Lange’s Grand Complication goes above and beyond these requirements. Its chiming mechanism includes a grand sonnerie and petit sonnerie in addition to a minute repeater; its chronograph is a monopusher with a split-seconds function and jumping seconds; and its perpetual calendar includes a moon-phase display. The watch’s two hand-wrought gongs produce the sound of the minute repeater and of the hour and quarter-hour strikes. Any 5550P owners on TRF?
Hi all, I am currently saving towards a 5970G (I prefer the dial over the 5970P's black. Though I would much rather have a platinum to match the 3970P in the box, I just can't do the dial.) And the 5970J and 5970R don't really peak my love for PP perpetual chronos in white metal. This being said I was curious if anyone out there had a 5550P because, though it would delay a 5970G, the size, shape and thickness (or lack there of) really appeal to me and I loved the 5140P when I spent time with it (but don't care for the blue dial..though I love me some white/silver dials with blue straps..)Anywho if there are any 5550P owners out there if you could share your experience, photos are a must, and even perhaps a little video (because there are none). Thanks much! ''
The want/need for the new
So with all this talk of Basel coming up (which is all new to me btw, I hadn't even heard of Basel until about Sept last year) it got me thinking about how so many of us, the watch buying public have the need to get hold of the latest item.I'm equally guilty, I get the feeling after buying a new car last year, only to find out there will be a replacement launched in a few months. Now it's an awesome car, almost faultless and really makes me feel special, and satisfied my needs - until the news of a new one came out. Where does this come from? Is it a generational thing? I'm 30yrs old.How I linked this to watches, specifically Rolex, was the thought that before access to the Internet was like it is today, did regular guys like me not get to know about the new latest Rolex, and was therefore more likely to keep it for a much longer time? Is the thought of holding onto something special because you worked hard for it dying away? I look at vintage Rolex that are simply beautiful, and altho
