What constitutes "vintage"?
Hello everyone here at TRF! Lately I've been reading a lot about the high costs and lengthy service times that accompany a Patek timepiece. Although costly and requiring an exorbitant amount of time to service no matter what, there seems to be and even more significant commitment when dealing with a timepiece that is considered vintage. In one instance, I remember reading someone with a vintage piece being told to expect a 4 year turn-around and a five-figure bill when all was said and done. Ouch! So, my question becomes when does a watch become vintage and therefore subject to these. higher servicing costs? Is it merely a matter of age (i.e. Pieces older than 20, 30, etc. years)? Is it a function of whether the piece remains in production? Or is it something else entirely?Obviously these types of things factor into my decision to keep my pieces or perhaps trade them at some point down the line. Afterall, I am fine with (but not happy about) waiting 6 months for a service and ge
Rubber B Velcro
Hi all . I just want to see if anyone out there has any experience with the new rubber B Velcro strap ? I recently received one as a birthday gift . I had wanted a rubber B strap for my sub for a while and seeing the new high tech Velcro strap on their website I thought it might be a good option , so asked for one for my birthday, It was interesting and different concept .. but I have to say I am so disappointed in the product . It peels open so easily , when removing my jacket , taking off my jumper , the Velcro catches and simply peels open ...I nearly lost my watch off my wrist on day one , it was on my watch fir 2 days before I took it off completely.I then contacted Rubber b to see if they may allow me to exchange my strap for a tang buckle . Explaining it was a gift. Their reply was no as the strap had been worn . And I should try turning the strap around . They then attached pictures of Raphael nadal wearing the strap in some sort of wankey statement of the products quality ....
Oysterquartz Service Going Forward
From what I have read, Oysterquartz production ended around 2001 or about seventeen years ago. While the movement has a lot of mechanical parts that are common with other movements, the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) is unique to this series of timepieces. In addition, European requirements since 2001 drove changes to eliminate lead in the environment, so there is some question about the availability of the PCBA going forward.Has Rolex provided any information on how long spare PCBAs will be available? Can the PCBA be replaced by anyone outside of the RSC? In other words, can a watchmaker with a Rolex parts account order the PCBA? I am considering purchasing one, but I want to have a watch that keeps time, not something that shows the correct time twice per day.
