Konstanin Chaykin Carpe Diem Watch: Finally, An Hourglass For The Wrist
Second only to the common jest of placing a sundial on the face of a wristwatch, is the suggestion that there be an hourglass. Yes, the timing device of antiquity has a very low occurrence of actually being referenced on modern timepieces in any significant way. That perhaps is due to the fact that incorporating sand in a watch dial isn't always the best idea. Nevertheless, the enterprising mind behind the Russian watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin decided that he wanted to be the first person to do it. Behold the Konstantin Chaykin Carpe Diem, the first wristwatch with a mechanical hourglass on the dial. The last time we ventured to discuss hourglasses on watches-dealer was when Ikepod released the Marc Newson designed luxury hourglass. The hand-blown, high-end glass case contained held metal micro-beads rather than sand and made for a rather amazing pieces of functional luxury art. Filled with metals such as copper to gold, the Ikepod Hourglass came in two sizes and was priced from about $
Ocean 7 LM-2: From the Archives of James Helms
Titanium is a great material to work with in many different applications. It’s strong, light and has a great color as well. It’s a perfect material for watches.? The OCEAN7 LM-2 uses titanium for it’s casing and achieves a fantastic looking result.??Everything on the LM-2 is in the right place and although it is a large watch it feels balanced, because of the sizing and proportions throughout. And it achieves all of this while saving weight due to its titanium construction.?Case & DialThe case is wide (45mm), containing all of the functions and readouts inside and behind the domed sapphire.? Not having an exterior bezel is actually handy due to the fact that you are less likely to hit, scuff, or knock it out of place.Due to the large diameter case, the height is more proportional.? Its taller than most at 17mm, but is not as noticeable.? Usually this construction would be quite heavy, but due to the use of titanium it’s much more manageable. The dial is very

Royal Oak Madness
By popular request here are some pics I took of royal oaks (some in San Francisco, some back home here in Canada) - people have been asking me about the 15400I've been tempted towards another AP for some time - and maybe a royal oak might be rightBut then again maybe a ROO (see the upcoming thread)Anyway - here is a royal oak jumbo 15202 in white, a royal oak 15400 in blue, and a royal oak 15300 on charcoal (sorry due to the lighting the latter two look similar - but they are quite different in person as I recall - I did take the picks in two separate countries...I wonder which looks best :) anyone Anna weigh in?Current Collection:Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore RubbercladA Lange Sohne Lange 1 PlatinumJaeger LeCoultre AMVOX II DBSIWC Portuguese AutomaticBR 01-94 Phantom XXX/50Rolex Deep Sea Seadweller 2012Rolex Double Red Seadweller 1976Rolex Everrose Gold Daytona (black dial)Patek Philippe SS Nautilus
Incoming - Aquanaut 5164
I've had my eye on the 5164 for a few months now and I'm delighted to finally get one. It's always been one of my most favourite dials, I love the globe within a globe motif and the sunburst anthracite colour, don't know why Patek call this a black dial. Hope you enjoy the pics.
