IWC Connect: The Latest “Smart” Watch Strap for Mechanical Timepieces
With last week’s announcement of its IWC Connect device an “intelligent tool” embedded in the straps of its watches IWC Shaffhausen becomes the latest Swiss watch brand to offer a high-tech alternative to both traditional mechanical watches and so-called smartwatches such as the recently released Apple Watch.According to the company, the concept behind IWC Connect is “to enable owners of IWC timepieces to control their connected environment directly from the wrist while also maintaining the integrity of a handcrafted mechanical timepiece.” In other words, to compare and contrast it with other “smart” and “connected” products introduced by Swiss watch companies over the past year or so, it appears to have more in common with Montblanc’s Urban Speed e-Strap (you can read about it here) in that all the electronics will be inside the strap rather than in the watch itself than with such “hybrid” devices as the M
Interview With Watch Lover Om Malik Of GigaOM On Smartwatches And The Samsung Galaxy Gear
With the announcement of the new Samsung Galaxy Gear, we had a chance to talk a little bit with Om Malik, founder of GigaOm. Om is an accomplished (and award-winning) journalist, with much of his work focused on the tech industry. What many may not know is that he's also a watch guy and friend of watches-dealer, which makes him the perfect person to talk to about smartwatches. Let's see what Om has to say about the smartwatch segment in general, and more specifically the Samsung Galaxy Gear:watches-dealer (ABTW): Given your background and interests, you've spent time around the smartwatch segment - how do you feel the category is shaping up?Om Malik (OM): I think we are still in the early innings here. Despite all the hype and noise around it, none of the companies have come up with a killer, mass market product. Most of my friends in Silicon Valley are obsessed with them, mostly because they are alpha/super early adopters.ABTW: What do you feel are the biggest strengths and weaknesses
15202 sizing
I have an offshore on hornback that I keep considering trading to something less substantial like an aquanaut or 15202. My wrist is on the smaller side, but the hornback works ok since it is flexible. I tried on the 15202 and despite it being much smaller, fit more awkwardly due to the stiff bracelet. It doesn't really hug the wrist but kind of sits raised if that makes any sense. Obviously could not size it to try it on properly, but does the 15202 actually need a thicker wrist to wear due to the bracelet than the offshore?
A personal thanks to the citizens of Great Britain
To each of you that voted to exit the EU this is a personal thanks to each of you. Whilst you may have ensured the misery of millions of people for a certain period of time, the collapsing pound and the VAT refund made many of us very happy. The last of the watch trilogy collected today!!!PS the 5130G I had sold 2 weeks earlier as o didn't like Riyadh on the dial and Moscow in the wrong place. I missed it plenty and following the collapse found a BNIB at the AD for $500 less than I had sold and it has Dubai on it which was the earlier edition!perfect!
Panerai 312
Thinking about a Pam 312 as my first Panerai. Any thoughts? My wrist is a little over 6.5 inches. Thanks in advance.
