My Universal Geneve Averin Chronograph Watch Article On AskMen.com
I really do like this watch even if it does have a bit of the Swatch Group stench from it. Let me clarify, the Swatch Group does not stinkbut corporate culture when it comes to watch making does. "Make sure this watch doesn't compete with this watch!" "We must consider brand value!" Union Glashutte is a great German brand, but I am afraid that the Swiss overlords are keeping it from its full potential. I mean, you really can't even get the Union Glashutte watches in the US, crazy right? Well this Averin Chronograph is a nifty watch that uses the Valjoux 7751 automatic movement that I have always been a fan of (unless you don't like looking at tiny information windows). a cool watch with a nice style.See my Union Glashutte Averin Chronograph watch article on AskMenwatches-dealer here. Can't hand-wind new BLNR
I'd been wearing my BLNR for a couple of months now, except on weekends. I recently sold and then re-bought a 116610LV, so I've worn that for two weeks. I grabbed my BLNR this morning, and when I went to wind it, the crown just spins without actually winding the spring. Meaning, I unscrew it, it pops out to the first position, and then if you turn it there is no tick tick tick while it's winding, it just spins. I can pull it out to 2 and 3 to set the time/date/etc., but no matter how many times I push it back, it won't wind. It's just been sitting in its box on my desk for two weeks. Is there some reason it should have gotten like this? I hate to send it in for service when it's only 3 months old. Never had this happen before.
rolex for 50th
So many years ago, 2000, I got a DateJust (Im not actually sure if its 34/36 but its one of those) with jubilee bracelet champagne face and roman numerals. This year will be my 50th and everyone is asking what to do.. I'd rather they put the money together towards something I can keep with me like a watch.Thing is... which?Back then I chose the datejust because it was to me the classic rolex. Nowadays I wonder if a submariner 116610ln would've been a more classic choice. Certainly I'd rather a 40mm than a smaller one.So I asked a few ADs about getting a 116610ln for november and they pretty much laughed.I've been on all the lists in the north west uk since last summer and not one call back.Whilst appreciating this is personal taste.... any suggestions for perhaps easier to get hold of models? My feel for the 116610ln was that it was an easier every day wear than the datejust whilst being a classic. What I don't want is something that looks flashy and wonderful the day I get it but a fe
Dial Swap Question
I was looking at a pre-owned 16233 DJ 36mm at an AD. I really want to get a TT DJ 5 digit, but I specifically want it to have a white stick dial, and the one they had was a black stick. The AD has a watchmaker on staff, and suggested that could swap the black dial to a white dial for me if I wanted to purchase the watch. He said it would be swapped with an authentic Rolex dial.My question is, does that ruin the watch or otherwise put a stain on it's authenticity by not having the original dial? Also, if down the road I send it in to RSC for service, would they require to switch it back to the original black dial since it wouldn't be in the factory original configuration?
