In-Depth: Four Tips To Spot (And Avoid) A Restored Dial
Collecting vintage watches isn’t for the faint-hearted. There are many, many things that can go wrong if one doesn’t know what to look out for – wrong movements, crowns, hands, franken-watches – the list goes on. In the spirit of what we published a few weeks ago, today we want to share some tips on one step of the vintage watch due diligence process: how to spot (and avoid) a restored dial.As many collectors will tell you, the dial is the most valuable part of any vintage watch. In most cases, a pristine dial with minimal patina, zero scratches, and no blemishes can fetch significantly higher prices than dials with some degree of wear, with the exception of some specific instances where patina might be preferred (e.g. tropical-dial Rolex submariners). 1 OF 17 Two pink gold 6062s, both alike in dignity C but not in price. Finally got some good pics of my 41mm chrono
I had some time with my real camera yesterday (as opposed to the phone cam) and I got in a shoot of my newish 26320. It's harder to take good pics of a watch than I thought -- I'm only holding on to these 2 out of about 20 pics taken. Might try again in better lighting soon.
Omega Speedmaster Professional Incoming
Just picked up my new Speedmaster. I could not be more thrilled! Long time lurker on this site. I am grateful to the members for sharing their valuable insight.
Submariner vs GMT BLNR
Buying in the next few days. My AD surprisingly has a BLNR in stock and getting the submariner I ordered a few days later. I'm leaning toward the sub because of the glide lock. But also curious how the GMT stacks up with water. Is has the trip lock crown? What pressure is it rated to? What other thoughts do you guys have? Any info appreciated.
