Hublot Breaks Ground on Its New Manufacture
To accommodate its continued growth, and to further assist in the verticalization of its watch production, Hublot began construction of a second building that will more than double the surface area of its existing manufacture in Nyon, Switzerland.In a groundbreaking ceremony on March 3, Jean-Claude Biver, chairman of Hublot (and recently named president of the LVMH Group’s Watch Division), and Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, turned the first sod with shovels specially engraved for the occasion.This new unit, located right next to the original building, will be dedicated chiefly to the production of components for Hublot manufacture movements and the production of watch cases. The facility will house micro-mechanical workshops, a bank of CNC machines, and workshops devoted to decoration, electroplating, general mechanical and washing, among other disciplines. Bvlgari, errBulgari always looks better in all caps right? While I have been seeing lots of confused designs from Bulgari as of late, this Diagono X-Pro is something I am not at all confused about liking (which is to say that I do like it). The cool masculine watch takes a few lessons from the polished looks of the Bulgari design play book, and adds a testosterone powered stamp of approval on it. When it comes down to it, while this is a great watch in and of itself, it feels like Bulgari's answer to the Hublot Big Bang. Not only in design, but also when it comes to the "fusion" of materials. Bulgari knows that with its performance over the last few years and the current economy, it can't dick around. It needs to give people what they want - which is apparently still luxury sport watches.One thing that is hard to tell is that the middle section of the case is actually all black - all DLC black for that matter. Omega got a mention on the front page of the WSJ today as a sponsor of Michael Phelps. Today he will stop in at Omega pavillion and on Wednesday will attend a formal event with Omega. The article is not more specific. Now Omega has a modern legend. Phelps is also sponsored by Visa and Hilton Hotels.
